    Christensen Arms

I have a couple CA's and like them a lot. (308 and a 270WSM) The 308 is running Swaro Z6 and the 270 is running a NF NXS 5.5-22x56. I would not say either is a 1000 yard gun- I can loft some lead in there but the guns let alone the calibers are not 1000 yard material IMO. I bought the CA's for...

    Stove fuel

With the titanium wood stove in the tipi I no longer worry about canister fuel. :) All the canisters seem to burn beautifully at 70 degrees. For many years I ran a Whisper when temp/elevation were a concern with regards to fuel. Now my only question is do I take the wood stove or not...

    Is my sleep system adequate?

You are pushing it... the stove will help but I would want a zero degree quilt or bag for sure. Love a quilt but it’s not a bag.

    Spotting Scope Application Question

Post rut I always take a spotter! It’s worth it’s weight in gold!

    Question on Gratuity

I would do one of two things: 1) I would be prepared to offer a tip for sure! If he accepts then he was expecting a tip. If he is insistent on not accepting a tip then I would keep your money and send him a very nice token of appreciation... Something really nice that demonstrates your...

When do you pack a spotter?

Almost always- the amount of walking one has to do versus what you can cover with your eyes is immense. I much prefer a big hike to a glassing site over walking all day.

    Down Sleeping Bag

You can't go wrong with a WM bag. I was going to buy a new WM when KUIU had a pretty good sale on their bags (It was a couple hundred off I think) so I thought what the heck I will try one. I bought their 0 degree bag and I think it looks/feels like the real deal. Will use it in CO at the end of...

    Horse Care Question

If I had been there I would have turned the horses loose- Happy horses, no noise while you are sleeping, and an owner who gets schooled.

15x56 on a tripod are awesome! Nice field of vision and good power!

    Backpacking Trade Shows

It would seem like the pack makers should have a couple frames in each size to send out for demo/test fitting... maybe they do? Heck- charge the shipping each way to a prospective customer and then apply that to a purchase of X amount or more should they buy... I know I was little hesitant to...

2017 Elk Hunting Story and Two Bear Outfitter Review

Great report! Congratulations on a very successful hunt from many standpoints even if you didn't get a harvest! Are you hooked on elk hunting or what? :)

    Gritty Bowmen-Montana Wild

What happened to being innocent until proven guilty? All the speculation about fish dying later is just a blivet. These guys paid their debt to society. Lets hope they learned from it. Its elk and deer season- I would rather read about that!

    Gritty Bowmen-Montana Wild

Eric- One could also argue that the action taken by the Montana authorities demonstrates how well hunting and fishing is policed. They screwed up, were caught, and paid a price... Current hunting rules and regulations are working and being enforced sort of thing... One could also argue there...

Condensation...this floorless shelter experiment may be over

Can't imagine going back to (crawling into) a traditional tent with a floor/low ceiling and no stove. That would be like moving back into my first apartment... Just not going to happen! With two guys you can pack in the Sawtooth with liner and stove at such an insignificant weigh penalty and...

Condensation...this floorless shelter experiment may be over

You need a liner- as you learned on the hunt. That's why they offer them. Rather than complaining about a $700 dollar shelter that requires a $300 liner think of it as a $1000 structure that allows you to take the liner out when weather permits. :) A little crazy to think you can put three...

    Traveling with stock

We are regularly running horses between CA/AZ/NM/TX and the only reason I would get horses out of the trailer is if I was stopping for the night. Drive straight through if you have a co-driver. At fuel stops offer the horses a drink- some will and some won't drink. Most of my horses will pee...

What stove for the Kifaru Sawtooth???

I purchased the Lite Outdoors for my sawtooth. I bought it because of the volume (holds a lot of wood) and the size of the door. Once you get some coals going you can feed a couple decent size pieces in there and get a pretty long burn. It also assembles very quickly and easily. I would...

One really big cooler or several smaller coolers?

Well I am getting ready to buy another cooler or two... My son and I are hunting more and more out of state and enjoying more and more success. Have two elk hunts coming up and an out of state mule deer hunt and without jinxing the hunts it is clear I need more cooler capacity to get everything...
