Ive been thinking about getting one of these. Its 5 degrees here in west texas today with about 5" of fresh snow. I didn't even think to test out gear today...but your right..it would be great day to test gear
I love mine....thought long and hard before deciding on a pack. I bought mine before the newer versions came out (hoodlem, etc). I originally added guide lid and 3 medium side pockets to the bag along the bottom area of PALS. But plan to remove two of them and keep the one in the middle. The one...
So far ive tried lowa tibets and Hanwag Tantra Top GTX in wide 10.5's. Of the two the lowa had a wider toebox. Both fit good in the heel. I just picked up the Hanwags used, and although a wide, they seem a bit narrow in the toebox. I was on the fence about doing a catch and release on them ( I...
I may have to change my logic to this.....very solid option here as well. So far a three rifle option....I say 22, 6.5 and 300 win mag! And to be clear...we are only talking rifles. Gotta have a shotgun and handgun as well.
lots of info provided already. Im no expert, but here is what comes to mind for me:
1. Pick up a slate call and box call right away and start listening to the turkey sounds (using podcasts, youtube, etc) to re-create them. Also start practicing with the mouth calls. If you don't get proficient...
If I could only have two...id pick up a 6.5 CM and a 300 Win mag. If I can only have one...I will just keep using my 30-06 for everything. I guess I should also mention that I don't reload, so that plays into the equation for somewhat readily available ammo.
Largest one I packed in was the sawtooth with full liner and poles, and a medium box stove from kifaru. It wasn't a solo hunt, but I was the only one using the shelter, and I packed the set it. It was overkill for one person but had lots of room. In hindsight I could have saved weight by leaving...
Yeah...this is exactly why im asking. The Uncom. was fine when active, but got cold while glassing anytime temps got around freezing or below. Then throw in the wind and it was hard to focus on the task at hand. I had my rainjacket over that to help block wind...but it just wasnt up to the task...
I already have the First Lite uncompahgre Puffy, and the pants. Ive been considering a warmer puffy though. Is the Lost Park Parka heavier than the Uncom? Follow on question..now that FL has the Chamberlain, is the Lost park Parka similar to the chamberlain? Trying to figure out which way to go...
I bought a box trap this fall and have trapped 5 so far. The largest was close to 300 pounds. He stunk so bad, I didn't process the meat on that one....but that may have been a mistake. Since that date, I've trapped 4 more, and all the meat has been fine and they have all been 150-250 pounds.. I...
IM following this one as well. I thought about adding a brooks sweater or vest to my Uncompadre puffy....OR getting the Chamberlin and packing it instead of the other 2 items for my puffy jacket layer.
Anybody tried this combo for a mid to late season backpack hunt? Because I already have the UnCompadre, wondering if this combo would be enough for later season or bad weather when it gets below 30's and lower activity levels when glassing on a windy ridge. I would also be wearing a FL base...
