    Chassis vs custom stock?

I like both. Currently contemplating a 22 inch 30-06 build in an MDT chassis for a "light enough" chassis based hunting rifle. I've had incredible success and joy shooting my RPR at the range. Prior to that I experimented with an MDT chassis and Ruger hawkeye barreled action, loved the...

    What Scope

I've had zero tracking issues with my vx6 and vx5hd, or any of my other leupolds. That said, the zl2 turret has much more positive clicks than my vx6 (it's older non hd) capped. But, the shv clicks are the best of all three, just edging out my vx5hd. Side focus on both are equally useful and...

    What Scope

I have a Night Force SHV 3-10x42. It's really nice and seems robust. The glass, while good, isn't on the same level as my non hd vx6 or my vx5hd. Overall it is a heavy duty scope, mine has the 30moa reticle which I like. It's on my RPR and I have no plans to change until I want more...

    Sako A7 Reviews, Recommendations, etc...

Vx5 is like it was made for this gun. Eldx is slow enough that the b&c reticle works on 12x and better fov then up to 15x for dialing. No tracking issues, but I've had this scope 6 months and that's been my experience thus far as well on two 300wsm's.

    Sako A7 Reviews, Recommendations, etc...

Was shooting factory hornady 178 eldx cartridges. Avg muzzle velocity rounds 10-15 was 2597 at +/- 10 fps. A pallet of that and I'm set for life.

    Sako A7 Reviews, Recommendations, etc...

Best day of shooting I've had in a long time; 55 degrees, sunny. 3400 feet elevation at my spot overlooking Tablerock Wilderness. Nominal wind and dry enough. The history of the rifle as sold to me by one of my trusted and reputable gun stores of choice was that it was new, unfired (except...

    Sako A7 Reviews, Recommendations, etc...

I'll post some pics when it's all done. I got the Roughtech Pro and leaving work early today for some trigger time. Guidance however, isn't really something you want from me; you'll go broke when it comes to "minor" firearm improvements. Mine is setup with Talley Lightweight medium height...

    Sako A7 Reviews, Recommendations, etc...

I just bought an A7 Roughtech 308. I plan to shoot the 178 grain eldx. 2600 fps gets that round to minimum expansion velocity at around 700 yards, 600 yards @ 1700 fps +/-. I expect to be a bit north of those figures in my gun but they shed some perspective on OP's long range thoughts...

    Nxs digillum problem

Recently decided to go back to a 10x max mag optic, rather than my older Leupold I opted for a new nxs 2.5-10x42 scope. It arrived yesterday, got it all mounted and everything is perfect! I started thumbing through the manual and after replacing the dead battery for the digillum it turned on...

    Oregon, McKenzie Unit, Irish Mountain

Changing my otc unit for rifle & archery from the coast to area around se McKenzie, sw Upper Deschutes and nw Fort Rock. Been attracted to the Irish Mountain portion north of Waldo Lake and west of the Pacific Crest Trail. Looks real elky to me and far enough away that the more "rotund"...

    Operation AZ elk drop'er

vx6 2-12 on your BLR 308. 165 accubonds or 178 ELDX. I bang flopped a bull at 409 yards last fall with my 20inch tube 308 and factory ELDX cartridge. Gun also had, ironically, a vx6 2-12. With the B&C reticle. It was a CA Ridgeline. The stock is very comfortable for me, but not the...

CA Mesa, Sako A7 roughtech, Nosler 48 Liberty

All excellent. I've owned a CA Ridgeline and handled various Mesa's. Only ever handled the Sako, and currently own an M48 Liberty in 300 wsm. I'd put the Sako at the bottom of the list. Not because it's not a quality firearm but simply because I'd prefer either of the other two personally...

    300 wsm ammo

Truth be told I really don't see myself shooting at game much past 500 yards and if that were never to change I'd buy a case of the 180 AB and be fat and happy. That said my skills are improving and I'd like the insurance of expansion further down range. Double tap site figures, all else being...

    300 wsm ammo

I've got just more than 100 rounds through my new nosler m48 Liberty, a few different factory loads but thus far the federal premium 180 AB's are shooting about .70 moa pretty consistently, 2870 muzzle velocity and about 10 fps +/- variance. According to nosler they need 1800 fps at least for...

    rifle with chassis in backcountry?

Chassis guns are sweet and I love them. To concern yourself with assembling a light(ish) weight setup would be to eliminate too many benefits in my opinion. Pistol grip for example: plastic (standard A2, Magpul, etc) suck. But they are light weight. But they suck for grip and control...

If guns kill people, why don't we just send the guns off to war and leave the people home... -Ozzy Osbourne Raising the age for semi-autos wouldn't have done jack to stop the Las Vegas shooter. An outright gun ban didn't do jack to stop Columbine. Timothy McVeigh didn't use a single firearm...

    long range scope for newb??

I snagged an SHV 3-10x42 with 30moa reticle and NF lightweight mounts for $600.00, barely used. So far it's an excellent little scope setup and can't beat the price. I've only looked at targets out to about 900 with it. While I think it's totally serviceable a little more mag would be nice...
