New pack - Kifaru or Mystery Ranch

Thanks guys. Think I’ll go visit each company, get fitted and see what feels best. Possibly buy both and try them.

New pack - Kifaru or Mystery Ranch

Debating between Kifaru Hoodlum or Mystery Ranch (looking at three different ones). Need the best frame for carrying weight on hips. Have had surgery on my back in the past and have reconstructed my knee this winter. So, can’t take a risk on something that could be hard to manage with a...

    Jackets with windstopper?

Jetstream is good. But another option is the Kryptek Vellus jacket. XXL should fit you.

    Sitka thunderhead gaiters question

I’m 6’3 with big calves. No issue however.

    Fleece midlayers

I have a number of pieces. However, I find none of the hunting companies work as well as my Helly Hansen midmeight zip neck fleece pullovers. If it’s cool the weight is perfect. If it get really cold I’ll put on a Patagonia micro puff jacket or my Kryptek Aquillo jacket (dwr down) over the...

I am tall. No issues with the pads. I don’t notice them. And run fine with gaiters.

Jetstream vs Hardshell - CO Second Rifle

Jetstream is nice. I like mine.

Jetstream vs Hardshell - CO Second Rifle

I use a soft shell in Colorado at similar altitude at that time. I do carry rain gear and some insulating layers in my pack. But usually the soft shell works perfectly.

    Kryptek Altitude Rain Gear Question

I’m interested in your review. A year ago (maybe longer) I was anxious to see the review of the Bora jacket compared to the Catalyst but never saw itgetpublished. Seems to be very little info on the product. And I haven’t seen much in any of the Altitude line but am considering upgrading to...

So you cut yourself in the field. Now what?

Couldn’t agree more. I keep IFAKs or similar everywhere; vehicles, home, office, travel bags, hunting bag, etc.

So you cut yourself in the field. Now what?

An ace bandage and compressed gauze will provide same capability and be more flexible. Israeli bandage is good for many wounds but isn’t perfect.

So you cut yourself in the field. Now what?

Have done the military TCCC course several times and take a refresher regularly. In my opinion it doesn’t matter what you carry if you can’t use it. In fact, if you have the right training and some supplies you can stop and arterial bleed. I’ve done it. It isn’t easy. But it is possible...

    Sitka Timberline pant knee pads

It depends on the hunt. I’m 6’3 and they work fine when in. I run the thunderhead gator as it’s quiet. No issues with fit for me.

Initial Ascent Backpack Member Review Opportunity

Thanks. As soon as my leg heals from my current knee surgery (ski accident) I’ll try one out. And trust d, if it has any failure point I’ll find it! 👍. I always break everything I buy....even unbrekabsle stuff!

    Kryptek Altitude

Thinking of buying the Kryptek Altitude line. Has anyone run the whole setup enough to have a view on how well it performs? I’d be very interested in hearing the good, the bad and the ugly.

Initial Ascent Backpack Member Review Opportunity

Very helpful to know. I’m 6’2-6’3 (back surgery means I’ve lost probably half an inch off my 6’3 frame) with equal length legs and torso. I’m looking for a pack that will fit me and also allow me to carry heavy weights without damaging my lower back where I had surgery.

    International Flights via JFK

If it’s all in one terminal, you’re fine. I travel internationally up to 200 days a year. Most of them from JFK.

    International Flights via JFK

JFK is fine. Just check arrival and departure terminals. You may need to take airtrain to get around. If so, you’ll need more time.
