Does anyone know if there's plans to change the ability to exchange your general tag for a controlled unit tag if successful in the draw?
In the past I've always waited until after the draw before buying general, but I think those days are over if I want to hunt where I normally do.
Almost the entire unit is sheep habitat, which can be a good thing and a bad thing. Expect to spend a lot of time, and climb a lot of elevation. No matter where you're at in the unit, you have a road below you, which is saying something in that country. 95% of the tags filled on the MT side of...
A lot of those tags went unfilled in 2019. Yes, there is potential for some really big bulls in there, but it's a much tougher hunt than most expect going in.
Unless you're hard up for cash, I'd put a crazy price on that thing and wait it out, list it on a bunch of national sites. These trucks are turning in to big time collectibles and the right buyer will pay a lot for it.
I actually think you might be in pretty good position. Not many guys had the foresight to get in to the game as young as you did. The VAST majority of those point holders are Boomers that are going to taking dirt naps by the time you've got 20-30 points.
I also agree with Buzz's points above...
They're pretty accurate for rifle pronghorn, moose, sheep, goat and limited entry deer/elk.
For general units, they're really only helpful for trends (bull harvest per year).
The way they work the hunter days is completely bogus, and I would put no faith in those or success rates.
