    Mearns Quail Arizona

Back-to-back years in AZ with lots winter/spring moisture and an awful summer monsoon season. This has been great from Gambel's (population number's have exploded to levels not seen since the 1990s). Complete opposite for Mearn's quail who rely on that summer monsoon moisture.

    First quail

I don't know if you saw the email from AZGFD but summed up: "Gambel's quail populations this season are at numbers not seen since the 1990s" 😳 I've been out a couple of times myself and it's remarkable the numbers of birds. I've seen coveys of 100+. Fun year to be a bird hunter in AZ. Enjoy!

    Nilgai Hunt Success

I have the archery permits. The hunts overlap but I'll likely spend 3 days at Teniente and 3 at LA. That had to be a heck of a hunt pulling out 9 nilgai and talk about a LOT of good meat! I'll be sure to check out Brownsville for some Mexican food. Appreciate the lead. In the next couple days...

    Nilgai Hunt Success

Thanks! I hear it's low success but still excited for the opportunity and already drooling over Texas BBQ. I haven't been to that part of the state since college spring break ;)

    Nilgai Hunt Success

I'm actually on my own running around the Teniente and Atascosa NWR tracts. But ambush will be the a main tactic. Gonna mix in some still hunting when I get antsy.

Yo So. Texas! I got Nilgai questions

Headed down to south Texas in a couple weeks to chase Nilgai with my bow (compound) for the first time. Planning on a mix of sitting water/trails/dung piles and still hunting. Have certainly heard the horror stories of not recovering animals hit with an arrow (rifle as well). Definitely looking...

How much meat off a boned out bull

I had a similar (bad) experience with a processor. Brought in conservatively 190 lbs of boned out meat. Ask was for all the steaks and roasts I could get then the remaining made into burger. Ended up receiving 80 lbs total and well over half was burger. The math will never add up; still irks me...

    Escaping CA...Tx vs Co

Not really answering your question but if you haven't, it would be worth your time to take a look at the Phoenix area. I moved here from Pasadena just over 1 year ago and it's been fantastic. Cost of living is a fraction of what it is CA, the outdoor opportunities are vast and when I want to get...

    Made it to AZ

That's awesome news! Globe has nearly limitless country surrounding it to explore. I make it through there every so often, I'm not far away down in Scottsdale. I love the drive up along 60, very scenic.

Bugling at Night to Locate Bulls?

I've tried all times of the night with great success. Works especially well when you can drive, pull over, shut your vehicle off, bugle, drive a couple miles, rise and repeat.

    F150 Truck Tire Recommendations

BF Goodrich All-terrain K02 10-ply have been awesome on my F-150. Not much experience on snow or ice but I beat the heck out of them and 30k miles later they still look new. I picked them up at Costco, definitely under $1,000. I don't remember the exact cost.

    Colorado Mule Deer

September is 4.5 months out. I hate to speculate but I have a hunch we'll be hunting. I agree with what has been said above. Why wait? Go hunt while it's still great.
