I believe some people have issues with Tikka actions when hand loading long-ish rounds. The cartridges have issues cycling from the magazine if the COAL is long. With factory ammo that is not a concern. Could be what Unkebob was referring to.
Let me start by saying that a 7RM is an excellent choice. It’s a very versatile round with plenty of good factory ammo on the shelves if you choose to go that route.
I own a CA Mesa and absolutely love it. It’s a bit out of your price range but definitely worth a look if this will be your...
Not sure if you ever plan on hunting geese or turkey but you may want to consider that when choosing gauge. I have a 12 gauge and find it’s very versatile. No isssues hunting doves with 2-3/4” #7/8’s or honkers with 3” #2’s and everything in between.
No comment on the Franchi since I don’t own...
100% agree. I love me a good hog hunt but have little to no access to quality hunting due to them being on private lands. This bill would only enhance hunting opportunities on already established hunting preserves for guides and outfitters. I only read the article and not the actual bill so...
I live in CA and have hunted for hogs here. My opinion is this will indeed lower the population but it’ll be done by for-profit ranches/guides. Not saying that’s a bad thing, but for a regular Joe like myself, not sure it’ll do much.
I’ve stayed in a buddies floorless teepee several times in environments from high desert to the soaked PNW. Gotta say, it’s not for me. As Zap said, might be a good option if you are willing to add some accessories to it. For me, I’ll stick to my standard 2P backpacking tent.

Does anybody here have any experience shooting the Hornady Outfitter ammo with the new CX bullet out of their CA Mesa? I have a 7mm Rem Mag Mesa and was able to find some outfitter ammo on the shelf locally. I have a hunt coming up requiring lead-free ammo so these may be a good fit.
I’ve...
I have a stupid question… What else can make a bullet not stabilize correctly/tumble other than hitting an object before the animal? Is that like if the twist rate of the barrel isn’t fast enough? I’ve heard that needs to be a consideration when using cooper ammo. Only asking because I’m also in...
I love Simms quality and customer service. Have only had two pair in my entire time fly fishing with some years getting 50+ days in them. Started with the first edition Tributary waders but the stocking foot came apart from the wader after a couple years. Simms went above and beyond to make it...
My 7mm Rem Mag CA Mesa shoots like a dream after break-in. It likes almost all factory ammo I’ve shot through it and I am just now starting to load my own to tighten the groups even more. Last week I bumped into a guy at the range with 2 mesas - 1 300 PRC and 1 28 Nosler. He loved both rifles...
There are quite a few good rivers/streams in the Uintas. I mainly fly fish so that’s all I can help with. If that’s what you guys are planning on doing, I’d call a local fly shop. Most shops will point you in the right direction without giving anything top secret away. After that, scout the area...
I have a 7 REM Mag and absolutely love it. That’s said, the 300 Win is a great all around gun. Probably a little overkill for what you hunt now, but what about in the future? Always good to have a caliber you can grow into rather than be limited by. Plus, then you have an excuse to get a rifle...
Does anybody know where I can get a 10 round magazine for my Smith and Wesson M&P 2.0 Compact? Or does anybody know other aftermarket magazines that are compatible with that firearm? I’m having a heck of a time finding one that works for the M&P 2.0 Compact in .40S&W.
Thanks,
