Well, I decided to do another Dall in NWT. Booked. I've decided to take my wife and share the time in the Mackenzie Range. Money was a factor as I enjoy my elk hunting and would prefer to continue that along with sheep hunting. Thanks for all the comments. I'd say the Stone won the group vote.
My problem is if I dont have a sheep hunt booked my 52 turns to 62. When I have a hunt booked, I feel 40! So, I told the wife if she wants me 30 lbs lighter I need to book soon.
I’d like your thoughts. I hunted Dall Sheep last year in NWT. Two days into the hunt, I take a nice ram - my first. Now of course, I want to go again. A 2025 stone hunt is $75k and a Dall in NWT nearly $40k. Would you do a repeat Dall hunt saving the money or would you go for the Stone? What...
Want to close this out. I went to NWT. I loved every minute. Loved my outfitter MMO. Stan was the best and his crew was great. Got my sheep, caribou, and Moose. All in 9 days. The best adventure of my life - next to marriage and hope someday I can go back...though I doubt it with rising...
I want to answer my own question. Just got back from 12 days in NWT. The Axis System is way to heavy.....
All you need is attack pant, down jacket and and a rain coat which doubles as a wind break
Thank for the good word. I still can’t believe it’s finally here…4 years in the making. I’ll breath easier when I actually land in Norman wells with all my gear!
What is everyone putting as an address for the outfitters out of Norman Wells on the Arrive Canada app? I'm with MMO. Do I use the Heritage Hotel in Norman Wells?
My big three hunt in NWT starts Aug 23. I have the Guide jacket and Attack pant ready to go but just picked up the axis pant and jacket on the Kuiu sale last week. I think I want to switch to the Axis system for wind and water protection. And they don't seem any heavier than the Guide and...
When I planned and then booked my sheep hunt, I didn't anticipate the impact of my weight loss. I wanted to get from 235 lbs down to 200 lbs. Exactly 30 days from departure to NWT, I'm at 207 lbs. Here's the problem: none of my "Expensive Kuiu" clothing fits! Everything is too big! Anyone else...
Typing this from 30,000 ft on my way back from the airshow in Farnborough. The electric club is on its way and we saw some amazing all solar planes which are also much close to commercial viability than many realize. You’ll probably start seeing some in Anchorage within the next 5 years. Battery...
I was mostly thinking out loud. If we applied regression analysis to the variant change in populations and factored in the weather temperatures, snow totals and number of hunters, I’ll bet the delta is significant. I’d also bet a predictive tool could be developed by some genius kid at Meta that...
I totally agree. My concern is that if it is a natural cycle and not man made. If it’s natural, there is little that can be done except hope the sheep adapt to the changes. If man made, then it would take a quantum effort by all nations - especially China to decarbonize. I don’t see that happening.
But
why would golden eagles be more influential on sheep populations today than they were 25 years ago? Just asking - are their more eagles? If so, why? Sheep populations in NWT seem fine. Less eagles there?
