Not sure of your kid's ages, but when my daughter was very young she transitioned: BB -> 22RF -> 223 -> 6.5x55
Initial swede range load to make her transition easier:
- 100gr SP + 10.0gr Trail Boss
- low recoil & muzzle blast, so great to acclimate
She uses 100gr NBT/Partition +...
Yes with all the usual loading safety caveat's of 'start lower & work up' etc. I'm not sure of Tikka throat and where you'll end up with OAL.
But I also should point out you probably don't need to push for absolute max speed - 2,800 fps seems to work very well.
I have gone faster...
I agree 280ai is very nice, but at least for me it's a handloader cartridge. Very little ammo on the shelf, and it's expensive.
Clearly not a 'regret' as I knew that going in, but I do think about that when I see someone at the range with (relatively) inexpensive 6.5 Creed factory ammo just...
I also agree with 99% assessment. And that guy you might see struggling at public range 'sight in' day at least made an effort, but there are some who don't even do that....
Another observation on classes - I thought I was ready for my first Precision Long Range class (nope) but instructors...
What was elevation?
Daughter's 1:9 rifle shoots 69gr really well out to 500 yards, but we never bothered trying the 75 / 77gr because of slow twist ... thanks
like thinhorn AK noted, most any reputable brand should work.
The slot spacing and depth can vary on other brands - maybe commercial Weaver vs MilSpec Pic drawing dimensions ?
The Burris has worked well on several hunting rifles for me, so that is just my preferred now. regards
I have had trouble in the past with other brand's eye cups while wearing glasses, but for me Conquest HD 10x42 work very well with (or without) my glasses.
I am still looking for a Kifaru Zulu. Prefer Gen 2 in a solid color (or mythical Desert Tiger Stripe) in very good to excellent shape, but open to other versions / colors.
I know somebody here has my next Kifaru hidden in the back of their gear closet...
Thanks,
Tim
My Win 70 Classic Laredo LRH is GREAT in a box stand after a relatively short hike in. I myself definitely notice the extra weight vs a Featherweight on a longer hike though....
