It’s hunting. Situations like yours are inevitable. Do the best you can, take ethical shots and live with the results. Whether or not you continue to hunt is a personal decision. For me, I’d keep hunting.
Even with the less than stellar pictures, I don’t see any way that deer doesn’t break 180, and if I was to bet, I wager he grosses closer to 190 than 180. I shot one a few years ago that has a similar look without the extra. Scored 182 and I think yours is a little better. Cool buck.
I picked up a brand new Bushnell Prime 1300 for $80 last year. Nothing fancy, but it ranges quick and accurately every time out to 1300 yards. Ran it next to my buddies Leica 3500.com and for simply quickly ranging things out to 1300 yards, I actually preferred the bushnell. It almost seems like...
The Kowa 88 and the Swarovski ATX/STX 85 are very close. I’d give the Kowa a very slight edge optically and the Swaro the advantage in ergonomics and aesthetics. Both of these scopes are easily better than any Zeiss, Leica or Swaro ATS/STS I’ve ever looked through.
Too many factors for me to say for sure what size of rings you would need. My scope is a Vx6HD 4-24x52, 34mm tube, and those are Nightforce medium rings (1” high) with plenty of room to spare.
It’s a Mesa Precision stock. Also had a buddy use the Hawkins Hybrids on his Ridgeline at the same time. He quickly changed to a ring and rail combo. The Hybrids fit was not very good for his receiver.
Sounds like a great situation. As others have said, a 200” muley is really big. Heck, a 175” muley is a great buck! Just look at as many pictures as you can before you go, and don’t get too excited about shooting until you see what the ranch has to offer for a day or two.
This buck scored 185. That said, I have no problem believing lightly hunted private ground in Colorado could have numerous big deer on it. Which general part of the state is the ranch located? How many acres? What size of bull did you kill last year?
66 and the 77 both use the XD glass in lieu of the pure fluorite crystal. The 77 benefits greatly from being able to use the TE11-WZ eyepiece. The 66 is a great little scope and is comparable to the best 60mm scopes but the eyepiece keeps it from being great.
I haven’t looked through a meopta to compare, so I could offer no insight there. The age wouldn’t at all. Nikons premier optics are built to last. The eyepieces thing wouldn’t bother me at all either. The package above comes with 3 eyepieces. I don’t know the fella selling the scope, but from my...
Read what a couple of the other guys had to say in the For Sale post linked above. These scopes are optically equal or superior to most alpha scopes. The eyepieces aren’t the best and the field of view is restricted, but they are bright, crystal clear and extremely well built. I used one for...
If you can find an old pair Nikon Venturer LX, you’ll be very pleased. Gorgeous glass. I currently use the Kowa Genesis 10x33 and it’s very good glass also. No need to spend over a $1000 on quality binos if you’re not worried about the name on them. I’ve compared both of the above against the...
I’ve used a bunch of setups over the years, but my current setup of a Gitzo GHF2W Head and GT2543L legs are my favorite. It’s seems to be the perfect blend of quality, height, sturdiness and weight.
Recent target with factory Hornady 147 ammunition out of my Ridgeline in 6.5 Prc. I’ve got a Ridgeline in 300 Prc that shoots just as well with the Hornady factory 212’s.
