    Gunsmith question. Short throat.

Boy, before I did something as dramatic as changing the throat I would simply try shortening the coal a few thousands first. Ran into the same thing with my 338 Jarrett. High pressure tight to the lands and great accuracy backed off just a little and pressure signs went away. Still had sub 1/2...

    Sheep hunt gun recommendation

I killed mine with an 06 and a Leupold 2x7. Dad killed most of his with a 264 model 70 and a K4 weaver, but that was back in the early 60s. Stones and Dalls. Most sheep hunting fails are due to physical conditioning. Looking forward to seeing your pics and reading your report

    Solo Elk Quartering

If I can relatively easily move him around i go gutless, if my first comment when I get to him is oh s—- this is going to be bad, I’ll gut him if I can. I once killed a bull that fell into a stump well left when a giant white fir blew over. Had to whittle down to the guts, drag the guts out of...

    Solo Elk Quartering

CNELK is fast, takes me a bit longer so I would say don’t worry about how long it might take. Also a fan of the gutless method, but I’ll gut an elk under some conditions. First thing I do if there is any chance he can roll or slide is secure with a rope or build a rock nest. I carry about 200...

Another hunting dog questions IM SORRY.

We do three to five miles hiking every day. Terrain varies. Actually that is the distance I travel the girls are off lead unless we run into some sort of trouble. Bears, porcupines that kind of thing. They are 10 and 11 and I guided with them for most of their lives, they have the basics down...

    Insulated Dog House

I had a couple of cubes, you can kind of tell from the drifts where they are. Dogs were good. I got tired of mornings like this so I sold the house last summer and moved off the mountain. Gave the dog houses to the new people. Dogs are Gsp

    College Wrestling fans?

Go Beavs. Beavers advanced four in the championship bracket; 4 in consolation bracket. All 8 still alive as of last night. I haven’t watch much but it seems to boil down to little mistakes.

    .257 Roberts frustration

I just bought a 257 Roberts. Only bullets I could find locally were 115 ballistic tips and 120 partitions. I’m hoping the 120s will work for gong ringers, buddy has some 100s he’s trading me. I’ll let you know what I learn. Rifle won’t be here until next week. Nothing down range yet.

    Elk rifle preference

Ive killed a fair number with an 06. Most if not all were with 180 gr partitions. Used a number of other calibers and for the last 20 years Ive done most of my elk hunting with a 338 Jarrett. Regardless you’ll be fine to 350 with the old war horse.

First Time GSP Owner Looking for Advice

I try to read most threads before posting. I apologize if I’m redundant. Get a good medical kit, including a surgical stapler. Learn how to use it and how to stabilize your dog. GSPs and barb wire don’t mix. Molly has received more than 100 stitches in her life. All from wire. She has no problem...

    Chassis to Conventional Synthetic

No, but now thinking about it. I have a Christensen MPR that Ive been thinking about selling or trading because I’m just not enjoying the rifle that much. Don’t want to take a bath on trading it, so it pretty much sits in the safe. Price of a good stock is better than the hit I’d take trading it...
