Yes, you can use your phone for marking waypoints, recording tracks, navigation, etc. The two most popular apps are probably Gaia and onX. Another is Backcountry Navigator. Personally, I prefer Gaia and Backcountry Navigator. Gaia is probably the most user friendly between those two.

Cahunter805 is spot on. Bears are my biggest problem by far and I now have all of my cameras in boxes (factory built and homemade). I've lost too many cams to bears.
They still try to mess with them while in the boxes, but most of the time they give up quickly once they realize it isn't...
For what it's worth, I have the carbon poles and had the tent on Mt Hood camping on snow in gale force winds. The tent was anchored appropriately all around and the poles survived. The tent fabric in the corners where the stake guy outs were sewn ended up with some tears however. One call to...
I read about other users talking about the "fish-eye" or "kidney bean" effect with the 30-60 WA. If you dig deeper I believe you'll find it's probably 50/50 on preference in terms of the eye piece choice. Personally, I really only notice the "fish-eye" effect when panning too quickly. Don...
That's understandable. For what it's worth, I have the Meopta version and both eye pieces. Before buying, all I'd ever looked through was the 20-70 eyepiece, and it was what sold me on the S2. I just had to get my own.
I bought a used one with the 30-60 WA, then found a 20-70x eye piece for a...
I have a buddy who now has both an angled and straight version (the Cabelas models with fixed eyepieces) and is trying to decide which one to sell. I believe he's leaning toward selling the angled. His name on here is "bucko." You might shoot him a message. (BTW, myself and 2 of my hunting...
We camped in the first half of November. 4 of us in a Seek Outside 6 man tipi with wood stove. 3 of us had Mountain Hardware Phantom 15's and the other a Big Agnes Mystic UL 15. We stayed warm (did not keep the stove going all night). It snowed 8-10 inches but temps did not get what I'd call...
I'm still trying to find the best combo to keep my pants up, and the FL stretch belt is one of my favorites. I've found it does slip a bit, but overall it does the job well and doesn't get in the way.
I've tried the FL suspenders, and like a few have mentioned here, while wearing a pack with a...
I've been using a Mountain Star 2P for the last few years and it has performed well. It has withstood torrential downpours and kept us and our gear dry. Yes, the vestibules are a little small for a full size pack and boots if there's two of you.
For the size and packed weight, it's a great...

Today's email from Sierra still just offered the SHIP89 code for free shipping on $89+. I have a feeling the discount codes of the past are gone forever.

I know there's a lot more Meopta S2 fans, like myself, on this site. In my opinion, the S2 is your best bet for the price range you mentioned, hands down. There's one in the classifieds right now for $1650. It is a proven spotter and right up there close to alpha glass.
If you can, round up...
I would consider the best spotting scope glass under $2,000 to be the Meopta S2. It is a proven scope, so you don't have to wonder what you're getting. There's one for sale right now in the classifieds for $1650. Hard to beat for that price, IMO. And yes, I own one. After participating in a side...
Yes, great scope, and a good price. Love mine and I'm glad I didn't "settle" on a cheaper scope. Usable throughout the power range, unlike a lot of scopes that are pretty much useless on higher power.
