Have done one drop camp in colorado OTC. It was last year (COVID). We went in on horse about 3 hours. Camp was great. We saw two elk and about 5-6 groups of hunters that hiked in. If there would have been elk we would had a chance. Someone set up a camp about 300 yrds away from our...
All suggestions above are good. I will tell you what I settled on after a couple years learning what works for me.
1. Lowa Tibet Boots (Uninsulated).
2. Elightend Equipment Sleeping Quilt (packable, light, warm)
3. Kuiu Kutana Rain Gear. Durable and comfortable. Jacket can be worn as...
Been a few trips but finally got to release an arrow. Wyoming. 45yd shot. Went 30 yards and piled up. Our group went 4/5 on punching tags. Great Trip. Congrats to all the hunters this year.
Lightfoot had a great list. Couple items I would highlight would be good boots and trekking poles (for sure). You might look at some sort of water filter. Also something to cook the bou on after the kill. We were lucky and found an old grill grate at a very old camp site that was about mile...
I have always used a Primos type bugle tube with the blue latex reed on the end. I have seen some talk about the Ridgeback Bugle from Liberty Game calls. Wanting some opinions of this call compared the the primos type. I would love to switch to a diaphragm for bugling but I can not get them...
We had meat near/next to camp. We did not ever have any come into camp to the meat cache but they did work over our carcasses pretty good from the kill site.
Have only been once. Some items that I would have really struggled without...
1. Trekking Poles-Used to help cross streams to keep balance and also to help with hauling meat back to camp.
2. Packable waders-Again used to cross streams. I had river trekkers and when not needed just rolled up...
Thank you for all the suggestions. We are looking at leaving Whittier going on on a big boat. Hoping to get away from most people but not sure how hard that would be? As far as equipment for this type of hunt would you recommend waders/wading pants or just muck style boots?
Group of guys looking to go to Alaska on a spring black bear hunt in 2022 With not having a tag for Kuiu or POW looking to go to Price William Sound (Whittier). Would like to do a boat based hunt that we can also fish. Wondering if anyone has some recent experience with bear numbers in the...
I have a Lane Scorpion 556 on my Tikka T3 in .22-250. It is my main coyote gun. Chose the 556 model to make it smaller and more lightweight. Contemplating on getting a 30cal for my other rifles larger than .224. Been happy with the Lane.
Trying to decide between Kuiu Chugach or Kutana. Will be using mostly for back pack type hunting. Wondering if anyone has used either as an outer layer jacket when it is not raining?
Has anyone seen anything regarding the fathers day sale that Kuiu usually has? Right now besides their outlet I do not see any sales to help me get stocked up for fall.
