Hello Wysondog,
Mansfield Outdoors is the Tentipi dealer in the USA and Canada. We're a sponsor here on Rokslide and I'm always happy to help out with questions or concerns regarding Tentipi Nordic tipis. Please don't hesitate to call me directly if you like at 425-501-7512.
Tentipi Nordic tipi's have a full storm flaps which can be positioned inward and staked down inside the tent. They can also be positioned outward to enable snow to slide off more easily, but the normal position is inward which creates a better "seal" against the ground (and critters). Here's a...
Every year as the hunting seasons approach we're asked this question. - what's the perfect hunting tent? We've had a terrific article on our blog for a while which has attracted hundreds of thousands of views over the years and so we'll post it again here in the hope it can help you in the...
For a base camp hunting tent I encourage you to check out the Tentipi lineup. Like Hilleberg, Tentipi is a very high quality Swedish brand and is available in sizes up to 20 ft. in diameter/12 ft. tall at the peak.
Here's a link to an article from our blog which makes a pretty good comparison...
Is your tent made of canvas or nylon? Water sealant coatings are fine for nylon tents but if your tent is a canvas tent you never want to apply a coating. It will render it unable to breathe which is one of the biggest advantages of a canvas tent. We recommend Nikwax for use on our canvas...
I encourage you to take a look at this blog article which makes a comparison between wall tents and large canvas tipi's - https://www.mansfieldoutdoors.com/hunting-tents/
Tentipi's largest (called a size 15) is 20 ft. in diameter and 12 ft. tall at the peak., it comfortably fits 4-5 cots along...
Some of those pics with the canopies are Tentipi Nordic tipis. I'll include a few more here as well.
Also, check us out at https://www.mansfieldoutdoors.com and see some of the new additions to the lineup this year, including half inner-tents, half floors, fleece floors, and more.
We highly recommend the roll-a-cot to our customers as well.
Keep in mind when using a tipi tent of any kind, the taller the cot is the further away from the sloping wall of the tent it needs to be. A big, tall cot can rob a great deal of the usable room inside the tent. The roll-a-cots are a...
We humbly encourage you to check out a Tentipi, if weight isn't as much of a factor as you suggest you might really appreciate some of the unique features. It's designed in the Arctic for Arctic conditions. Please don't hesitate to give us a call if you like, sometimes a real conversation can...
Hello JP100,
I understand, the Tentipi lineup is a bit confusing at first. Tentipi has been around a long time and have added many features, accessories, etc. which can make everything a little hard to understand. That said, your description of what you're looking for is right in the...
Check out all your options, but I encourage you to check out Tentipi's Nordic tipi's while you're at it. Pricey for sure, but when you start doing the features and benefits comparisons many find them to be among the absolute best tents available worldwide.
Check them out here - Tentipi Nordic...
Tentipi Nordic tipi's are designed to be used floorless, or with a floor when desired. They're detachable, bring it when you want it, leave it home when you don't. Tentipi's floors also have different zipper combinations built into them. They can be opened into an "O" shape around the center...
...or, if weight permits, you could go with a canvas tipi and eliminate these condensation issues altogether.
When you start to add the extra weight of liners, etc. the difference between a smaller sized canvas Tentipi and the other single wall nylon tipi's starts to even out.
Canvas...
There is another option, a small open fire inside your tent. After spending years designing a UL wood stove, cutting every ounce possible, I learned that the lightest stove out there isn't a stove at all, it's a tent capable of accommodating an open fire inside. Zero carry weight, available...
The problem I have with a camper or camp trailer is that you can only go where you can get the camper. This is one of the biggest advantages of tent camping. Most of us endeavor to get away from the crowds, get away from other hunters, other camps. At least here in the mountain areas that...
If you're having problems with quilts etc. sliding off, try applying "dabs" of silicone adhesive to them. I put many dots or dabs on my sleep pad too and it really helps, prevents the bag sliding off the pad.
