Man I'm in a similar boat... admittedly lost a bull and ate tag soup 4 or 5 years back on a 42 yard, downhill frontal shot. Good blood for 3 miles, never found him and heard him bugle that evening (8 hours later). Friend shot a "sick" bull few weeks later in rifle season that had one of my BHs...
Thanks - I still stop by the wall of fame at my local sports store and check river fishing reports. Fishing and hunting are community things to me and I love seeing others success!

Thanks for the contribution. I enjoy seeing these threads on a yearly basis and enjoy seeing regional trends. Not intending to be dumb or fishing for information - my days off and areas I'm hunting are set in stone so it won't impact me.
I love elk, love elk hunting and enjoy hearing what...
Haven't seen a bugle report thread yet this year... If I missed it, mods feel free to nuke this one!
Heading out later this week and curious what you all are hearing!
Cold stretch in MT last week but opener is looking hot again so I'm expecting it to be fairly quiet till towards the end of...
Hornady is decent - speeds have not been super consistent in recent batches that I have seen. Federal terminal ascent is my fav right now. Berger EOL is pretty good too.

I would add adrenaline presence as well as blood pressure... hyped, anxious, or stressed animals seem to just take longer to convince they are dead sometimes. Rutting bulls seem like a good example of this. I shot a little satellite early sept. a few years back (archery) that was grazing with...
Mine was stiff but we were able to get it off with a person holding the rifle and a person using a wrench. Took it off before any carbon fouling fwiw.
May require a little heat to release perhaps? I don't recall any thread locker.

I always do. Leather dangler to get below the pack belt. Doesn't feel like hunting to me if I don't have a knife on :-)

What are you seeing/hearing with FN? Curious as a lot of the vids I have seen and my experience has been very positive. Prolly 500 rounds through mine with a few hundred hardcast.

Have had both and got rid of the SIG. It's won't reliably feed heavy rounds. Lots of others have had the same. Magazine dimensions are just too tight for heavy (over 200 grain) rounds when you have a full mag.
FN510 is a wonderful gun and has been rock solid or me, as has the Glock 20 gen 5...
I had pressure issues with Hornady and low speeds too... You can have high pressure low velocity with COAL issues. The Hornady loads I had were too long and jammed into the lands. Federal was shorter and chambered/removed find, Hornady had lands marks and was sticky to extract.

Interesting report - my field time hunting them the last 6-7 years (admittedly this is just hunting in a few units) supports this in that the observed #s hunting the last 2-3 years is less than it was 5-6 years back.
I'm curious to see this year's numbers - areas I have hunted just seem like...
I was out shooting yesterday and ran into it - it was a somewhat mild day, but terrain can do weird things. The 1k shots had to hold left 1.5-2 minutes, 1150 was dead on, 1400 had to hold right 1.5-2 minutes. The same canyon had different wind profiles in multiple places... one spot a creek...
