    Cutting barrel advice. .300WM

Well you guy’s convinced me. I’m going to a local gunsmith tomorrow to see about cutting and threading the barrel. I’m thinking of 20” if the barrel is thick enough to hold a 5/8x24 thread.

    Cutting barrel advice. .300WM

You are right. That was a dumb way of thinking. Here’s a different and/or better question; How do I know that I’m burning all the powder in my case in a short barrel? If I had a 20” barrel, and say 73gr. of powder, would all that powder burn behind the bullet or just create a fireball at the...

    Cutting barrel advice. .300WM

Good article. I’m not sure what the overall takeaway is. I’d be interested in comparing the ballistics of a 20” .300 WM vs. 20” .308…? Is it correct that magnums really get their pop from that long barrel?

    Cutting barrel advice. .300WM

What are the considerations and implications involved with reducing the length of a rifle barrel? I have a .300WM that I have loved for many years. It is a decent shooter for a factory gun, but I’d like to put a silencer on it. The factory barrel is currently 26” long. If I cut and thread the...

    WTB Tika T3 6.5 CM

Well the title says it all. Looking for a good used Tika 6.5 CM Lite or super lite, I'd prefer the super lite. I would really like one for dinking around at the range, maybe make into a light weight rifle for deer and antelope. I am tempted to buy a new one but not hot enough on it to drop...

I think it’s normally a month prior or so. You could try calling them on the phone. Update your card today, then you don’t have to think about it.

    WTS Tikka T3x SS 6.5CM

Is that the “light” or “super light”? I’m continually confused by those. How long is the barrel? Is it fluted? How much does it weigh? Thank you

WTB Hunting Rifle in 308 for under $1k

I love this idea. Has anyone had any experience with these Howa barreled actions? Are they accurate? I’ve been thinking about a budget 6.5CM just for fun. I was going to buy a Tika T3x (gold standard affordable gun) but this definitely seems more unique and possibly a fun project.

Best way to carry bow in backcountry?

The problem I had with bow on pack was 1,Cam too high caught in trees 2, Cam too low hitting rocks can’t sit down on steep hills. 3,Center of gravity all goofed up balance off 4, must remove bow to grab any little item out of pack (hat, snacks, 15s, jacket) I still do sometimes put it on my...

Best way to carry bow in backcountry?

Pretty close. You can adjust the strap lengths easily and on the fly. I keep mine pretty tight and I hook the hooks in a a manner that can’t the string away from my legs. It doesn’t bounce but I do pay attention to my legs rubbing on the cables or the strings going through bushes.

Best way to carry bow in backcountry?

Guys, I bought a Montana bow sling and I really enjoy it. It isn’t the perfect fix all, but it helps. I don’t really like my bow in my pack and it’s a hassle to carry it everywhere too. I recommend trying the Montana bow sling

    Sturdy boots without Gore-tex

Howdy Rokslide! I live in AZ and I am hiking in warm to hot temps often. My current boots are Lowa Baldo GTX which I love except for the fact that they are too hot! It is dry as a bone here, I do not need Gore-tex, I want something more breathable. I am looking for some advice on good sturdy...

    Wool sock recommendations?

I wore one pair of darn roughs on a 5 day backcountry hunt. I had another pair in my pack but wanted to see if one pair could hold up to 7-10 miles a day. Im impressed! They did wear in the heels but are absolutely 3x tougher that smartwools. Go darn tough you won’t regret it
