What do you do for work? I will say that in my line of work the money on the west coast if far superior which is the main reason I’m still here. My plan is to move but still most likely chase jobs here a few months out of the year. Wyoming Arizona or Montana are a few on my list that I would...
Oregon has a lot to offer. If you have other options I believe there are a lot better states to hold a resident hunting license. Personally I’d like to leave as soon as my kids are graduated. It’s an upgrade from cali but I don’t know how long that will last. Portland and Eugene politics...
I know you listed pod casts but as i commute 4-5 hours a day I’ve gotten a bit burnt out on pod casts and have gotten hooked on jack Carrs terminal list novels. To preface this statement I haven’t actually set down and read a book for dam near 20 years now and a buddy talked me into trying the...
Lakes and water sources make excellent camp spots for other hunters as well. Especially guys that don’t scout a large water source that they know will be there I would think would have competition.
I go back and forth on the orange theory and safety. Most people dumb enough to point a rifle at something they don’t know what it is can’t spot camo is one of my theories lol. The target shooting seems to be very bad anywhere out of Portland area.
I couldn’t agree more. It is so difficult to get kids interested in hunting living here. And as stated it’s very disheartening ride no your bike miles in behind a gate and there is a dozen people driving around
Same here in Oregon. The Weyerhaeuser permit areas are worse then state land. Every one thinks they own the dam place and people are driving everywhere. Judging by the amount of people I see in archery, deer, elk rifle and bear seasons it’s really hard to believe they only sell the amount of...
The water you will find you may be able to “purify” but it is most likely cow and elk piss as well as bugs and pretty gross. As an Oregon resident it was eye opening. I don’t even pack water in my day pack quite often we can’t go a half mile without crossing a stream normally lol.
It all depends on how much you intend to actually use it. I’ve had mine for a bit more than a year. It has easily paid for itself and then some. The quality of meals we eat in the back country is great. Even if I’m hunting out of my pickup I will cook things for the kids quick while we are...
Unit specific conversations are locked pronto. Until it comes to Oregon units. Kinda funny and sad. You may have drawn a decent tag but it isn’t worthy of locking the unit specific thread down because it’s just Oregon. Not just this one, being a resident I’ve just noticed this trend. I...
Maybe I need my sinuses checked out, it does work but smells great must be sarcasm? A two stroke mixed with some 110 octane is my go to for good scent tho. Maybe I’m off here hahaha.
For sure. We have come to terms that my wife can have fun hunting if I don’t have a tag in my pocket. If I have a tag I push hard and that isn’t fun for her. Good luck to you!
Patience is your friend. If they aren’t bedded in a killable spot don’t waste your energy. Keep an eye on them and wait for a stock with a possible outcome. It took us a lot to not just run at every buck you see as you would a bull. Blowing every deer you see out only means you have to go...
What are people’s experience with using utvs to get around? My main concern is theft. I don’t want to road hunt, so just curious how trusting people are leaving a utv at gates you are walking in behind? Or am I better off just driving my truck and so I can lock it.
