I had a goat hunt set up for this November, but unfortunately the outfitter was not issued enough tags and I was last on the list. He refered me another guide and if anybody has experience with them I'd like some feedback. The outfitter is Whiteswan Lake Outfitters in BC. I looked on the...
I don't know anything about the frogs, but I'm not surprised. If they closed areas of the Sierras off to hikers it would piss some people off. Unfortunately they would be too clueless to ask why. We have one of the healthiest populations on mountain lions but we are not allowed to hunt them...
I'm making the same decision. I'm going on a BC mt goat hunt in early November. We will be doing alot of hiking and backpacking. For now, I'm thinking of wearing attack pants with marino base layer. I will probably just get both and decide what to use when I arrive.
I was told in "southern BC". I plan to have a conversation with the guide next week to get more specifics and he will probably make legit seggustions for equipment. On his webpage he suggest Sitka, but the recent pictures show Kuiu also. The specific question I have is should I get a pant...
I'm trying to decide on a hunting pant to purchase from my goat hunt in BC this November. It will be a backpack hunt so I'll be covering a lot of ground, but glassing also. When I'm backpacking or snowshoeing I always wear my rei sahara pants with or without long underwear. They do great in...
Thanks for the feedback. I purchased a new set of shafts and could tell a difference with shaft of the arrows refletched several times. I'll probably use rubbing alc. more rather than fine sandpaper. I guess this is a no brainer, just never really paid attention to it.
I site all my hunting rifles in at 1.5" high at 100 yards. This should give you about a 200 yard zero. Just aim in the middle of the shoulder and it will cover you out to 300-325 yards.
I was curious how many times a person could reflech carbon arrows without effecting the flight? Each time I reflech I use a razor blade to scrape off the glue and fleching, then use fine sand paper to smooth the surface. This obivously removes small amounts of carbon each time and I'm guessing...
I've started applying for moose tags in ME, VT, and NH. I was curious of any suggestions of calibers for hunting these areas. IN BC and Alaska many people talk about large 300's or 338s, but most shots in the NE are at shorter ranges because of the thick cover. I've heard of people using...
Lots of good information above. I've been backpacking/trekking/tramping (depending what continent your on) in several mountain ranges and used probably used/abused 12 different packs (rei, Gregory, Mountainsmith, Dana Design, Kelty...) and the Kifaru Timberline are the best I've used (hiking...
Robby-
I'm trying to find a lightwieght, compact tripod for hunting in these areas. I used them growing up in TX, but that is a totally different story. It would only need to be about 8'-10' tall. Do you know of any options? I'll try looking on a TX archery forum for more information.
If I...
We hunt in the SE corner of AZ for coues deer and mule deer. You can purchase an otc archery tag in January and it is still good through the calendar year. The coues deer rut in january and the mule deer usually have a "2nd" rut during the same time. It may sound crazy, but my buddies and I...
I've had this same question before also. If I'm on the trail hiking to my secret spot, then I have not problem staying warm. But, once you settle down to glass (or nap) your feet can get cold. I usually have noninsulated unless I'm in a treestand or poor weather with mixed rain and snow. My...
Bear canisters are required in many areas of California, but I don't know how they would hold up to a griz or huge brown bear. I saw a 350 lb bear in the Sierras go nuts trying to open and crush one of those things. He was never successful.....beause I shot him.
