Ensure the distances are correct, 100 and 500 yards respectively. If the 500 yard berm at your range is actually 492y, or 511y for example, that will need to be accounted for in the ballistic program.
A tall target will shed interesting information as well, isolating/identifying possible scope...
I have not had any experience with the others you mention, but I got the BA Rapide this year. I used it on three hunts this season. Very comfortable for side sleeping. A definite improvement from my other pad, a Klymit Static V. The BA’s weight is higher, but worth it to me for the comfort.
Do a search about “trick pin system”. I do something similar, I use 50 yard pin for shots of 5-43 yards on elk. I use the 35 yard pin for 5-32 yard shots on deer. Takes some practice to aim off the vitals and trust it, but it works great. Works well for shots I do not have time to range the...
Since you are just starting out, I suggest you use a 100 yard zero. Set the zero stop for 100 yards, or even a few MOA/MIL below this. If you then want to carry the gun during hunts with the zero on 200 yards simply dial this setting in from your 100 zero. Usually an adjustment of 1.75 MOA, or...
I purchased the Leofoto 324 and 284 to test side by side. I shot from both of them with my rifle directly mounted to the ball heads (XLR Element 4.0). I could not tell the difference in group size, so I kept the 284 to save weight. Glassing with bino’s has been stable enough as well.
New X Mid 1 was delivered this morning. Set up was very easy. Got it right on the first try. This tent will primarily replace a BA Seedhouse 2 I have been using for many seasons. Looking forward to the double doors. Most of the time I will run just the fly. Has anyone used the X Mid 1 for two...
I have owned and used both scopes on the same rifle. NX8 with MIL-C, ATACR with MIL-R. Liked them both. Both functioned flawlessly. Ended up keeping the ATACR.
ATACR likes:
low profile locking turret.
42 mm objective.
MIL-R reticle for my use, and matches my NXS 2.5-10x42 MIL-R.
Initially...
I did not read every comment, so I apologize if this has already been recommended.
I have found the "Trick-Pin System" to work very well for Elk hunting. I use it with a fixed 3-pin (20, 35, 50 yards), using the 50 yard pin as my trick-pin. It would work with a single pin as well. At 270fps...
At 8000' DA (Elk Country) a 6.5CM firing a 147 ELDM at 2745 fps provides 1500 ft./lbs. of energy at 600 yards, and 1800 fps at 973 yards. However you wish to measure effective terminal performance, a 6.5CM can meet the requirements for Elk further out than I wish to shoot at one. No matter the...

The middle step is a separate piece of amsteel spliced in with a locking bremmel. I spliced the ends the same way to make eyelets for mounting to the aluminum stick with hardware. I put the 1/2" clear poly hose over the step area for better wear resistance. Plenty of Youtube videos on the subject.
