I have the same rifle and it shoots 55 and 53 v-max, remanufactured black hills 52 hp, and hand loaded 50 gr SP’s all extremely well.

Follow up: I torqued the front action screw to 65 in-lbs instead of “farmer” tight. Ten rounds went 1.5” instead of the previous 2” and 2.1” groups. I will have to confirm the improvement next time I’m at the range, but looks promising.

Will do once I am no longer handicapped by a 14 twist .223. Most of my coyote killing lately has been with .204, .243 and for 6.5 on longer stuff. But I have seen a fair amount of 50 gr. .223 bullets (NBT, Sierra SP) exit coyotes sub 300.

How does a bullet become “proven” without testing it on game? Personally, I try to kill a handful of coyotes with a bullet before heading after deer. It at least gives an idea of expansion and penetration.

I’m thinking I’ll try some different torque combos next time I’m at the range and see if it changes anything. Then maybe shin the barrel up a bit and see if it likes less pressure from the channel. Anyone tried the shimming deal? Seems a little janky stacking card stock in there.

Thanks for the replies. From what I have read, front screw needs to be 65-90 inch lbs or farmer tight, 30ish on the rear and the middle just snug enough to stay put. This is how I currently have it set.

Sounds good! Where at on the bad side? No plans on making it over there at the moment, but the wife is from there. So I get drug over the mountains once or twice a year.

I have 6 full and one partial box of 2 shot. Trade for rifle reloading supplies (sr/lr primers, powders close to 4350 or varget, 223 powder, bullets 6mm, 6.5, 25, 22, 7mm, .308, .204) or other hunting gear. Too heavy for shipping to make sense, so face to face in the Spokane/CDA area. Headed to...
I have used South Shore Archery and Black Ovis. Good results from both. Have also fletched my own, which I enjoy. Just depends on how you want to spend your time.

I have been messing with my M77 Hawkeye .243 Win (stainless/synthetic) lately. I always had inconsistent 3 shot groups with it (but still killed plenty of deer), so after reading up on the 10 shot group stuff I decided to give it a try. It started at 2.5-3” at 100 with various loads. My normal...
I have a 14 twist Sako and load W748 under whatever flavor of 50 grain bullet I have on hand. I like the 50 grain Nosler Ballistic Tip best, but I’m shooting coyotes. 53 vmax and 50 grain sierra/Hornady SP work plenty well also.

Eddie Bauer fleece lined guide pros are nice. You can get them pretty cheap if you time it right with sales and clearance. I also have a pair of Duluth trading fleece lined fire hose pants that I use for work. They are more durable and still have some stretch to them.
