    Stock question

Late to the show but would be happy to give some feedback as a right hand dominant but lazy eyed left eye dominant shooter. You ever get this sorted out?

    Oregon Mule Deer Units

I hunted Owyhee rifle this year and did one September scout trip. Bring your own shade is good advice some areas the lack of shelter is downright dangerous when temps are 85 plus degrees. Escouting was effective for me but you gotta have faith and stick with it because the deer activity is...

    Colorado corner crossing bill proposed

Livestock AUM rates are super low. They are not paying way more to lease it for livestock.

    Colorado corner crossing bill proposed

I personally wouldn't cut my nose to spite my face when it comes to democratic support. Whomever comes up with a corner crossing bill that can pass and allow me to hunt wins my support. Regardless of the letter next to their name. To not work with someone solely for the sake of not working...

    Oregon Spring Bear 2023

I drew Alsea/Stott Mountain as well. This will be my first spring bear tag and first spring bear hunt ever in more than a decade. My dad is joining me as well and this will be his first bear hunt ever. We have nearly exactly the same plan except I will be bringing in my 4 year old a long...

    UT Oquirrh Stansbury Late Muzzleloader

Just to close the loop. I had a ton of fun on this hunt. Saw lots of bucks but it took some time to find any mature deer. Ended up taking a previously wounded buck 3x4 the second to last day. More area to cover than it looks and it took awhile to find the mature deer.

    Heart shots drop deer instantly?

Found this thread after searching for shared information about an unusual occurrence this year. I have heart shot several deer and have had some bang flops but mostly they rear up and run on their back legs for a bit before tumbling. I have had one odd outcome many years ago where a young buck...

    PNW Traditions G4 Ultralight Loads

Thanks for your help. The globe sight certainly helps but I am learning the limitations of my ability to shoot with open sights. I will give those a try. Are you using true black powder or a substitute?

    PNW Traditions G4 Ultralight Loads

I have tried a handful of load combinations with limited success. The goal is a 150-200 yard Oregon legal muzzleloader. I have tried Thor's and TC maxi-hunter. So far I have just used Goex FFG powder. The maxi-hunter was closer than the Thor but still pretty far off from my goal. Wondering...

The misery of a lost deer.

This year was a brutal one for me losing animals. Previous 20 plus years of hunting I lost 3 animals that I can remember. Two elk and one deer out of several dozen successes. This year I lost an elk and a deer. The deer was especially hard. He was the biggest buck I have ever shot on a...

    Your BHA Dollars at Work?

Also, in some cases what is money going to do? Going to bribe someone? Throwing money at existing legislation or proposals doesn’t really have an impact. Getting the word out and making phone calls does. I’m sure some money was spent to advertise the opposition to these bills. But it’s not...

    Your BHA Dollars at Work?

It’s not BHTA either though right? Yet still they did something. You’ve got a bone to pick with BHA that’s evident. The realities are that they have worked to prevent trapping bans even though it’s not in their name. One of the few to do so. In Oregon the board has commented on trapping bans...

    Your BHA Dollars at Work?

To me it makes a little bit of sense but needs to be looked at with some nuance. If someone is already interested in hunting and angling AND is going into politics. Then great that person, vote, or advocate is already in the bag. "Preaching to the choir" type of thing. However, making early...

    Spine question for Axis Hexx

I chased FOC with the HEXX with some pretty terrible results on elk regarding durability and penetration. I think a stronger shaft and accepting a higher overall arrow weight is a better option. After my experience with the HEXX I am going to a 570 grain setup. However, I only elk hunt with...

    Oregon NE Whitehorse Muzzleloader Hunt

Might be worth hitting up the chukar hunting forums and that route to see what they have been seeing. As you know mule deer are in a terrible state right now in Oregon. Did a recorded talk with the states leading biologist on this. Really interesting. Can share if you're interested.

    UT Oquirrh Stansbury Late Muzzleloader

I drew the late muzzleloader general season tag Nov. 3-11 for the Oquirrh-Stansbury unit. My dad and I rifle-hunted this unit on horseback when I was a kid. This was about 20 years ago and much has changed as far as mule deer and fire activity goes. The biggest buck I have still ever seen to...

Lessons Learned: Complete Arrow Failure on Elk

I just shoot to a 100 yards for practice. Figure if I can do that in practice I will be better at closer. Magnifies any issues you might be having as well. Figured if I can drop a broadhead and a field point close at 100 something must be working. My range limit is 60 in the field, depending...

Lessons Learned: Complete Arrow Failure on Elk

I do want others opinions and productive opinions like reburns and others on this have been appreciated. It is just frustrating rehashing things covered or having people simply provide blanket answers like you didn’t tune your bow at all or you just made a bad shot end of story nothing to do...

Interested in learning more about torque tuning? I’ve always just practiced as much as possible to avoid torque.

Lessons Learned: Complete Arrow Failure on Elk

For those assuming a lack of tuning or practice. I have a full size deer 3D target and 5 acres. My buddy and I make up all sorts of situations. Kneeling, sitting, timed alert animal shots, draw and then come around a tree, unknown ranges, odd shot angles, small windows, etc…. It’s a lot of...
