I have the vx 2 as well. Seriously considering dropping the dough on a Swarovski Z3 with a little more magnification, better low light performance, at not much more weight at all over the leupys. I like the CDS but not amazed, want to try out the zeiss "z" reticle and the swaros to see how I...
No experience with Core4's. Used several others. Compressors are good. I have the patagonia puffy pants I snagged for $15 at a yard sale....can't beat that. Also used the Outdoor Research transcedent....good, but down. I just saw that LL Bean now carries a H20 proof down (Downtek) at under a...
7mm SAUM 180gr Berger VLD- 390yds Dall Sheep. Exit wound pencil thick, blew up heart, broke the far front leg in half. Obviously with the heart shot it was dead instantly.
The BOMB Bags actually hold whole sheep quarters surprisingly well. I quartered mine out on the hillside then dealt with boning them out on nice flat ground. Think I had maybe two inches sticking out of the bag, but all in all I was very happy with the BOMB bags.
Just got my Delorme Inreach SE, excited to ditch the SATPHONE bill and see how this thing performs. Will post the review upon my return...kinda nervous about the USB internally charged battery on a 13 day hunt. Just gotta make sure I don't send any messages to fellow sheep nuts since each text...
I dig the Marmot Scree pants. Only issue I have is that I'm a pocket freak...so the sole hip pocket doesn't quite cut it for me on any long trips. You can pick em up on sale for about $60. Been looking to try a pair of the Marmot durango's, just havent bit the bullet yet. For an even...
Welcome G-man, recognize the handle from the other site. as others have said this is much better, great group, no no it alls. Good solid advice, welcome.
becca, yeah we could do that but we had a bunch of camp raiding fox, mice and porcupines last year at the strip. Trying to get the meat off the ground.
Being optimistic....should support at least two sheep and one bou. Don't care how high off the ground so long as it keeps the meat bag off the tundra. About 4' I'd guess is a good height. Supporting roughly 300#. Would prefer to avoid trekking poles as this will be for the strip once we...
Looking for any ingenious and Lightweight meat pole setups y'all might have used with some success. The area we sheep hunt has pretty much no trees and we want a place to hang our meat from. Last year was a pin hanging from the 10 little scrubby "trees" at the strip. We were thinking some...
Yeah you can. Go buy some nylon webbing and some buckles. I think I got sme from REI, 3/4" webbing and thread it through the 4 loops on the standard lid. I use that and my grab it on the bottom with a piece of foam I cut from an old thermarest to protect my cam if I do fall on my arse. Be...
I'm not a fan of soft shells sheep hunting....as others mentioned bulky and not hat warm. Warm/weight ratio just isn't there for me. I don't even run a "mid-layer". I run a merino long sleeve, puffy (on the heavy side but wind proof I have an OR havoc), and a hard shell.
Dang I need to stop working so much so I can play along in more name games and score some free gear...haha. Love the concept, just placed my order. Had been looking for something to fill the void. The kifaru bags while lighter than these don't breathe....at all, so while great for weight...
