I'm not knocking our progress and ability to have exactly what we want. Or the progress of doing more with less. I'm enjoying it.
But there is something to be said about our grandfathers who bought a .30-06, or .270, or 280 etc and used that one rifle for everything they came across. And never...
I'm wanting to get a FFP scope to dabble in PRS. I got a rifle for free so I'd like the scope to not cost too much and see how I like PRS.
Clearly I'm looking at Arken, but which one?
What else should I be looking at?

Personally if it's in good shape, I'd leave it alone. I see no reason to do anything to my 270.
That's one to keep original IMO.
But maybe that's just me.

I have no idea if this is a thing. But is there any accuracy or more likely a consistency advantage to a one piece scope mount on open top receivers?
I look at something like a 110 or 700 action compared to a Tikka action and I wonder if there is any flex in the open design that a one piece...

Looks to me that its a strong competitor to the 110 Tactical and a full 2lbs lighter, street price significantly lower. Assuming they are shooters, I say well played Ruger.
I love my Tikka. No argument here that it's a better platform to build.
But functionally speaking, the Tikka stock is just good enough and certainly only marginally better than the RA Gen I at best. So to get the same features in the TIkka you are talking a significant jump in price. I'm...
I cant decide. I can definitely see myself doing any of the 3 options.
The thing I always have to remind myself every time I feel im being sucked into the cartridge vs cartridge rabbit hole.........DEAD is DEAD.
Now THOSE are reasons to keep them. In my case, my FIL is impulsive and buys stuff without thinking about it, with no plan, and no real intent to use it. There is almost no sentimental value here.

I understand that many people feel that way.
It was given in full knowledge(not understanding) of 2 things: 1) I am looking to build a somewhat specific gun 2) the gun he gave me was not that gun.
I also don't put explicit or implicit stipulations on what somebody does with something I give...
