Congratulations to you and your daughter. Really cool looking Remington 700, my boy and daughter share a 700 CDL .270. Great bull and enjoy the trophy and some great eating
I would imagine most of the elk are nocturnal and are not moving out of the timber during the day. The high winds will also keep them holed up in the timber. I’m curious as to what you findsince I’m planning to hunt 2nd season in 2022. PM sent
Any hunters on the forum have any advice or recent experience hunting Colorado unit 48 1st rifle? I’m planning to apply either in 48 1st rifle or 49 2nd season in 2022, Lord willing. PM appreciated. Preston
Sounds good. You will have fun. I’m not getting a pup until mid November myself, so we both have a year to train. Fall/winter is great time to get a pup.
I’ve started several pups singularly with mixed success. I would recommend starting with one pup, a good Garmin tracking collar, and start training with a caged coon at 6-8 months in age, and then in a few weeks turn a wet coon lose in a timbered area and let the pup bay it before turning it...
Yes, any elk are legal in central Montana. The other districts I hunt are branched bull only, so I plan to hunt open up more areas where any elk is legal.
I have actually decided to hunt an entirely different spot that have wanted to hunt in the Little Belts, but have never hunted, that will take off 10 hours of drive time (5 hours each way). It will be a good scouting mission and maybe locate a few spots for later in November.
Depending on the area you should have no problem with getting firewood. I would bring a good chainsaw. If your camping out on the low BLM ground around Dillon you might have to drive a ways. Good luck on your hunt
I do several 10 mile days and never get over 2 miles from the road as a crow flys. I go pretty minimal, bc I’m lazy and hate packing extra weight. Most days I don’t even carry a backpack, Beside rifle/ammo, I take knife, sharpner, hatchet, binos, fire starter, water, and lunch/snacks. The area I...
Has any other members only had three days to hunt elk, and been successful? I have been fortunate to connect with bulls on several occasions with only 2-4 days to hunt, due to work, family, taking care of animals, working on the house, etc. I wish I had more time this fall, but I can only attain...
We are training two filly’s and last fall I placed a deer hide next to the feeding area, and within a couple days I could put it on them no problem. The second picture you can see how much she has grown in 9 months from weaning
We lived in Kalispell for 8-9 years and have 3 rentals, which have been a great investment. A good portion of the move ins are paying way too much for property and/or rentals. Wages are relatively low, unless you have a business or construction business. It’s way different than when I visited in...
Yes, lived by ELy Nv for 2.5 years off and on in a army artic tent and smaller dome, once in WV for 7 months, CA near Tahoe for 5 months, Aladdin WY for 7 months, eastern MT for 4 months last summer, and up in MN through this spring-fall. I work in construction and it saves my per-diem money
I’ve lived in one for 6-8 months several times. Just set up this tent yesterday and plan to live in it in northern MN until November or December. It’s very doable, if your mind is right.
Wayne Hill is a chain smoking Jack wagon, I would stay clear of him and northwest Montana. I would personally consider hunting a private ranch in central Montana if your wanting a good opportunity to kill a bull.
