I have found the FF II's to be good, too bad they are no longer made. We put a 3-9x40 on my young cousin's X Bolt 308 Win. Last fall while on a mountain goat hunt in the wet snow he dropped his 60 lb pack when stopping for a rest and it tumbled down the mountain about 20 feet. Rifle was strapped...
So it shifted but went back to zero after the drops. Would you consider the Trijicon Credo 3-9x40 or the Huron series to be better scopes? Too early to tell yet? They are in a similar price range to the Signature HD.
We have used everything from 260 Rem all the way up to 375 Ruger so any good deer round will work well. Just make sure you double lung them and you will be fine. I'm partial to the 300 WSM but the 308 or a 7mm is great too. Pick the gun you like the best and rock on.
He does seem like a likeable guy and had the guts to show up at least. That 300 is going to be punishing that's for sure. That scope kiss was a pretty hard one and doesn't feel very good. A nice fast twist 243 or 6 CM would have been a lot better.
For the record I feel good to about 300 yards...
Haha I just made a thread too on it. Taking a 300 WM to the dome on shot #2 didn't help him. At least he stepped up. Any takers here for his challenge #2? Your chance for fame or infamy.
Part 1 here didn't go well but the guy was a good sport about it at least. Getting the magnum eyebrow on shot #2 from a light 300 Win Mag sure didn't help his performance. Here's your chance to go for his challenge in part #2.
My go too load was IMR 7977 with the 150 gr Ballistic Tip or 160 gr Partition, same charge. Too bad they discontinued that powder it worked well and you would get some excellent speed from that 26" barrel. Magpro might be a good replacement. IMR 7828 SSC and H 4831 sc worked well too with the 150's.
The guy who said go down to the gun shop and handle a bunch of different guys gave the best advise. I like Tikka but don't let anyone talk you into something you don't want. I would add the new Remington rifles to your list and Browning X Bolt. Weatherby makes a really nice rifle. A lightly used...
Burris Signature 3-15x44 HD might do it for you but are pretty big scopes for a 22 lr Might be something in their Fullfield IV line too that might work.
Lot's of interesting information about Weatherby and their move to Wyoming. He goes into some of the details about why they moved and how they are doing now. Some of you don't like Ron Spomer (I do) but he does a great job here and asks some really good questions. Weatherby sure has been hitting...
I went for it and like the cartridge, don't think you will be disappointed if you try it. It's accurate with fairly mild recoil and will perform farther than most of us should ever shoot.
