Until recently, I’ve only shoot 200ABs from my 26” barreled 10 twist 300rum. It shoots ridiculously good. For some reason I can’t leave well enough alone, so I picked up a couple boxes of 230gr otm tacticals. I found accuracy without pressure at 3095fps average with 91.5gr of N570 and low single...
I see this far too often. It might be lack of knowledge more than stupidity but it still drives me nuts - A newish hunter in whatever group, be it Facebook or any hunting forum, asking if he should go with a 6.5cm or 300 win mag for elk. It’s always those two choices! Like they’re so close in...
If you plan shooting at any kind of distance, the ELD-X will be great. That’s where I’ve seen it really do work. I’ve had a couple buddies shoot blacktails with 6.5cm 143gr around 100yds and they required multiple shots (up to 3) but the longer shots have given devastating terminal performance...
200gr Accubond out of my 300rum with MV of 3130fps. It was recovered from my daughter’s first bull (Roosevelt) after breaking the onside shoulder and going through the offside scapula, coming to rest against the hide. The shot was 450yds.
Considering your max range if 350yds. I’d go with the GMX for sure. The ELD-X becomes a real killer at ranges beyond your max. I’ve seen very poor performance on close shots the the ELD-X.
I bought a lb of H100V to try in my 300wsm, and it’s now my powder of choice with 180gr ABs from a factory M70. Consistent 1/2” groups, with at least two touching most of the time. Btw, there’s also a temp sensitivity chart that’s floating around online that shows it’s more stable than what...
Get out in the woods this time of year, while the elk are hanging out in clearcuts all day. Then you can see what’s around. I’m in SW WA and usually hunt muzzleloader, since you get the tail end of the rut and less guys in the woods (most years). Hunting the wet side isn’t as hard as people...
