Anyone ever strap children to their pack frame?

Looks like it would carry okay, but not super comfortable for the kid. I guess that would encourage them to walk more though.

Anyone ever strap children to their pack frame?

I am looking around for a quality pack, but I also often hike with young kids that can’t always make that last mile. Has anyone ever put the kids on the meat shelf and belted them in? Did it work well, or not at all? How big of a kid has ridden this way? My kids are 30 lbs and up. The main pack...

    Any knife makers on here?

I’ve been wondering about the harbor freight grinders. I’d rather build or buy something I can use for a while as a hobbyist, but if cheap gets me started that’s better than daydreaming.

    Any knife makers on here?

Do you ever feel like you need more oomph, or is that 1hp sufficient? The Russian bog oak is really cool!

    Any knife makers on here?

Those are some beautiful knives! What horsepower motor do you use for your grinder? I’ve considered building my own grinder, but did it actually save you money? Where did you get the plans? And what wood are those really dark handles made of?

    Scouting for elk routes

Thanks for the replies. I am not expecting the same daily routes, more like the general route that they use on their two-week long circuit of the hunting unit. I want to put out trail cameras around the unit and see if I can figure out their rhythm, and know roughly when and where I can expect...

    Scouting for elk routes

So, this last fall I went elk hunting in a totally new area. I had scouted several areas and during the season we saw lots of elk, but always on the wrong side of the fence. Talking to locals and other hunters, elk in this unit move around a lot. It’s a small unit with a good amount of...

    Any knife makers on here?

My father in law has a forge setup that he lets me use when we visit. My first knife I designed to have a long cutting bridge, 52100 steel, and sturdy enough to baton firewood or do anything else. I like the blade shape and the general look, but the blade is far too thick and resulted in really...

1 Piece of Advice to pass onto a New Hunter

Remember that it’s supposed to be fun. At one point during my last hunt my feet were frozen, my clothes were soaked, and the only animals we had seen were on the wrong side of the fence. And all I could do was laugh at the misery and enjoy the beauty of the outdoors.

your good (or not so good) customer service interactions of late

Expedia. Booked my wife a trip, she showed up at the hotel and it was unsanitary. She cancelled the booking but it took over a month and a complaint to the BBB to get our refund. They tried claiming they couldn’t find our booking, and can we please provide the booking number, and every other...

    Introducing myself

Thanks Eddie, I’ve come across various rockslide posts over the last year or so, and figured I should join up. There seems to be a lot of knowledge here, and after coming home empty handed from a hard hunt, I need all the help I can get to up my game.

    Best outdoors memory from 2022?

It was a good year. Watching a bobcat while waiting for elk, finding my first elk shed, or hiking with my kids are all high on the list.

    Introducing myself

Hi all, I just got back into hunting this last year after moving to New Mexico at the start of the pandemic. I grew up in Idaho and hunted there a few years as a teenager, then we moved and I went to college and then lived in California, and I’m finally in a place I can hunt again. Had a great...
