Should be mostly snowmelt, so the temp will be plenty cold. Of course, if there is still snow up in camp I can just bury the food in a snowbank. Good to keep that in mind for later in the year though.
For my upcoming turkey hunt I want to bring fresh food, since I’ll only be out a few days and it tastes so much better. I want to use the age-old “put it in the crick to keep it cold” trick. Except instead of adult beverages I want to just use it for my regular food. I figure double ziploc bags...
Great resource, thanks!
The tl;dr is essentially that eclipses are so rare we don’t really know, but it could be really interesting, especially if they think it’s twilight and start moving. I’ll be looking forward to it!
I’ve spent some time building a draw odds calculator for New Mexico. I also started with a spreadsheet adapted from the full draw report. After a lot of thought, the best I’ve come up with is essentially a Monte Carlo simulation of the draw. As someone said above, you don’t know what order...
I realized this morning that there will be an annular solar eclipse during my elk hunt if the draw goes my way. Anyone ever hunt during an eclipse? Do the animals think it’s evening and come out to feed, or any other weird behavior to note/take advantage of?
I had 3rd choice deer last year and first choice for elk. This year I put a really tough hunt as first choice so I’ll get 2nd or 3rd choice if I get anything. The rule changes messed up my system for estimating my draw odds.
Hunt codes are typically the same year after year (with possibly a few exceptions) but with the rule change cycle almost all codes are different. Always best to use the most current rules.
Yeah, I was kinda thinking the increased opportunity would be fun, and some of the WMAs near me already have special muzzleloader rules, so why not special archery rules for increased opportunities.
I doubt there is anywhere that has an archery season that is traditional-only. Is any person/organization lobbying for this? If there was such a season, would you hunt it?
Or would this just get people out in the woods who have no business being there?
