Let's See Your Semi-Custom Tikka Builds

I think I might send mine in this spring. Really like that. I have a 6.5cm and a 243 at a gunsmith now getting threaded. I have to pony up some money for a suppressor now.

.223, 6mm, and 6.5 failures on big game

Shot a lot of animals in my life and never struggled. Also, I've never used a nosler bullet in my life. When I was a kid it was core lokt then when I moved out and was on my own I just bought what was cheap and never paid much attention to bullet. Started shooting bergers around 15', shot some...

.223, 6mm, and 6.5 failures on big game

If I would have been tracking or losing animals because of the 223 I'd probably be back to shooting the 300wm. Nothing wrong with whatever a person shoots. Actually kind of great we live in a time were we have basically unlimited combos of bullets, cartridges, barrels, actions, scopes, etc. I'll...

.223, 6mm, and 6.5 failures on big game

I told a story of a bull I shot last year with 215 bergers. All 4 shots hit him in the lungs. In retrospect the first shot killed him but I keep shooting just as you do. Then you said bergers are terrible. Maybe a tips suck cause you had to shoot 4 times? I've shot a lot of animals with the 215...

Favorite 22lr rifle or other caliber

Started my girls with a 22 Cricket now they are shooting a 223. They are 7 and 9. A little single shot iron sight is great to teach on.

.223, 6mm, and 6.5 failures on big game

You just told me the Berger 215 hybrid is a horrible bullet but I had had the same scenario as you? Bull soaked up 4 bullets but was dead with the first shot. Hard to know until you skin/gut them. Shoot what you will cause I could care less but like form said, be honest.

.223, 6mm, and 6.5 failures on big game

Calling in an air strike is the only sure way to ethically kill an elk. Those shoulders are tough. The A-10 gets it done every time.

6MM Custom Build, Who Are The Go To's For This Build

Never had a custom rifle built but do your research because the few of the smiths I've used to do various things have over promised timelines. T&C Fisher told me 2 weeks to bed a stock and thread a barrel and it was 2 weeks when he called me. A guy to consider.

That is one heck of a first buck! Congrats to both of you! Now, you have to find her a bigger one next year.

Tell me why I shouldn't move to wyoming...

I want to go north in the summers. I don't get out much in the summers. Fall, winter spring is when we get stuff done around here. The heat just shuts me down. The older I get the more I hate the heat.

.223, 6mm, and 6.5 failures on big game

I've killed a lot of animals with a Berger. I'd say they kill fantastically. That big bull was dead on his feet but I hit him a few more times.

.223, 6mm, and 6.5 failures on big game

I've killed a pile of elk with my .30-06 and my 300wm and the cow I killed this year with the 223 died just as dead as with my other rifles. She actually died quickly and the heart/lung damage was impressive. I killed a nice 6 last year with my 300wm shooting 215 bergers and it acted like...

.223 for bear, mountain goat, deer, elk, and moose.

here's another with the Tikka t3x 223 shooting factory 73 eldm's. Shot was 50ish yards entrance went through the leg bone just above the knuckle below the scapula, took out the arteries above the heart, severe damage to the lungs and exited the opposite ribs. Will post more pics tomorrow...

Should hunting be uncomfortable? -Bringing up young hunters

When I was a kid kid I had crappy boots and Levi's. I froze my arse off many times but I loved it. My dad let me carry my BB gun which I thought made me feel like a grown up or something. My dad wore the same stuff so I know it wasn't comfortable for him either and great gear just wasn't really...
