Borah Bivy instead of Tyvek ground cloth?

It's not like I wake up outside the shelter in the morning or anything from having slid so much, but its very common to wake up having slid against the wall of the shelter or to the edge of the Tyvek where the pad is now sitting on the ground. It's quite annoying.

Borah Bivy instead of Tyvek ground cloth?

Anyone do this? Reading through the recent condensation thread got me researching Borah Bivys. Wow, those things are light. 4.5oz for a Cuben UL bivy, that's near waterproof. I currently run a Tyvek ground cloth in my SilverTip, but I think my 4'x8' sheet is roughly 8oz and can be a PITA to...

Ruta Locura 710 CF tipi pole

I bought a 54" + 8" adjuster. It actually is 55" with the adjuster fully collapsed. I think they recommend 56" for a solid, non-adjustable pole for the SilverTip. I wanted a couple inches shorter in case I needed it for whatever reason, and then can do up to 6" above baseline if I run line...

Ruta Locura 710 CF tipi pole

I run an adjustable/corded 600 for my SilverTip. Sweet little pole. I ran it for 5 nights in Idaho right next to my 12" LO stove and didn't have a bit of problem despite getting pretty hot. Only issue I ever had with it was that the end cap popped out (and I lost it) when I was too stupid to...

    Enlightened Equipment new APEX jacket/vest

They look nice and quite customizable just like their quilts. Anyone plan on trying one? I'm considering a vest w/ hood. I wonder what their return policy will be if they don't fit.

    KE = 1/2 mv^2

As I'm sitting here working on my pre-course modules for TNCC (Trauma Nurse Core Curriculum [I'm an ICU nurse at a Level-1 trauma center]), I've happened upon this physics formula again. I've never really thought much about it until now, but it made me think of archery. In dealing with...

    Titanium Wood Stove Technique

Are you closing them all the way? If so, don't. Leave your vent cracked a smidge so she still chooches.

    Titanium Wood Stove Technique

I think if you close the damper too much it will start to reverberate. And more than that will cause a draft reversal. I control my Lite Outdoors mostly with the front vent and barely close the damper. Seems to work best this way for me.

FYI: Kenetrek Mountain Extremes for $300

Wasn't sure if I should put this here or in the Sale section. Anyways, my locally owned outdoors store, Vance Outdoors, is having a blowout on these boots. No returns. $300. That's by far the best price I've personally seen on them. KENETREK MOUNTAIN EXTREME 400 @ Vance Outdoors

    Which vest?

Loved my kuiu when I used it for bear this past spring in Idaho. Temps 35-75.

Went by Kuiu today.....asked about solid colors for those that care : )

These new solids are hideous. Yikes. I'm not sure about everyone else, but the OG Major brown and Phantom were just fine, but maybe expand them to some other garments. I'd buy a solid vest in a second if they'd make it. And a beanie too.

    Stove question

That guy is cranking down the wingnuts waaaay too tight. My 12" was used for 5 days straight for early spring bear in Idaho and barely has a crinkle around the stovepipe hole. The rest looks great and I ran the crap out of that thing. It does take some finesse to roll it up or set it up so...

    Stove question

I run the 12"/18" Lite Outdoors stove. Like was said above, the large door opening is a big seller for me. It's light as hell and very versatile in my opinion. I run it in 12" mode in my Seek Outside SilverTip, and whenever I purchase a larger shelter for 2-3 guys, I'll run it in 18" mode. I...

Where to buy a Gransfors small forest axe.

Amazon honestly has the best prices on them that I've seen. I think I've seen them as low as $155. I bought my GB Wildlife Hatchet off there and I freaking love that thing.

    Seek Outside Silvertip

I do. Works good so far, however, I have yet to be in really buggy country. I will say that it doesn't take much to rip them though. My GSD pup put a couple 4-5" rips in mine in a hurry. Its not a huge deal, but I need to see if SO can fix it for me.

    Need some stove opinions

I run the LO with 6' of pipe in my SilverTip and it works fantastic. You could probably get by with 5', however, I wanted to be able to elevate my ST if I wanted for more ventilation, and I also wanted enough pipe for any future, taller shelters I may purchase...

    Backpacking axe/hammer

Gransfors Bruk Wildlife hatchet/Bahco saw combo here. The GB is the sweetest hatchet I've ever seen, but pricey. Wood is no match for it. The mini GB is borderline useless IMO. No weight whatsoever and it's way smaller than it looks online.
