    Expandable broadheads recommendation

I’ve killed with many expandable, but switched to fixed. If I go back to mechanical, it will be one of the SEVR heads.

    Broadhead vs bareshaft tuning

I’m with TXarcher. When I’m BH tuning it is 1/16” or less rest adjustments. When I’m at 40yd’s and over, 1/32” is a big adjustment. I use the gold tip chart. I adjust to FP and BH within 2”. 2” group at 50yds is about my best. I practice passionate with BH out to my tapes max distance to...

    Well, guess I need a crossbow….

No first hand experience, but a buddy I trust went from a Hoyt compound to a Ravin and he swears by that thing. He hunts river bottoms in OK.

    Fireforming new brass: the poll

Just built a 33SM. I’ve loaded up 50 rounds and loaded them long to use pressure from rifling to seat the case against the bolt head. Min charge of powder. Time will tell if I did it right. But until then I’m watching this to see if there are any advantages to the other methods.

Do you leave your quiver on or off when elk hunting

Admittedly, I’ve been on 3 elk hunts and never taken and elk, so maybe I am doing it backwards.

Do you leave your quiver on or off when elk hunting

For me, the quiver snagged too much brush and the arrows would pop out when stalking. It’s not a weight issue, so it stays on in tree stand.

    Cutting Edge vs. Hammer bullets

I shot a caribou with a 338 cal 225gr MTH. Bullet performed exactly as CE describes. 4 petals never found but you could see the wound channels. the bore rider design did allow me to get much more speed than expected. In my 338 WM, my notes show the 225gr at 2992fps avg.

Do you leave your quiver on or off when elk hunting

Quiver off, attached to the belt of my pack for wilderness hunts only. Quiver on for whitetail. I practice with whatever setup I’ll use in the weeks leading up to the hunt.

    Oldest Ammo You've Shot?

Shot some Vietnam era 5.56 and some old paper hulled Herters 16ga. All went boom.

    Quickest hunt

Quickest hunt for me also led to the biggest bodied white I’ve ever harvested. I was supposed to meet some family for a quail hunt at 0800. So I parked at our meetup spot at 0630 and climbed a tree less than 100yds from my truck. Right at daybreak a group of does walked within 50yds. Just...

What are the top factors determining where you live?

Unfortunately my employer drives where I go, but when I get a chonce….yup, my wife makes the call. the one thing I’ve learned is that hunting new areas is an adventure. Life is what we make of it.

    Lead in Meat Discussion

Not the best answer, but I have thought about this for years and handle it 2 ways. Neck/head shots when I can. I leave a wide section of meat on the animal if it has any bloodshot or damage from the bullet. Yes, I lose some meat, but it makes me fairly confident my family won’t get a chunk of...
