I’ve never shot suppressors and never will. I’ll let all you guys that won’t hunt with someone shooting without a suppressor know where I’ll
be next time so I can have the place all to myself. A big thank you in advance! 🤣
Another thing to remember is that those elk are around each other all year. They know their sounds. A hunter comes in with a new sound and they usually get quiet fast or leave the country. They also come in quiet out of curiosity for the newcomer. When they come in on a string bugling the whole...
Big fan of the Exo k4. I have the 5000. The 7200 would fit great for what you want. I’ve had Kifaru as well. They are great packs but seem heavy to me and they never really fit me well. The K4 fits me great. The most weight I had in it so far with gear was around 70lbs. The belt never slid down...
I’m 5’8” and went with the exo k4 in 22”. Love this pack so far. Much better than my old Kifaru DT2.
Edit:
Forgot to say that I packed out my September elk with my new EXO pack. I only had it for maybe two weeks before I went hunting. It worked amazing compared to my older Kifaru.
Interesting. I’ve never heard of tin being used as an ear liner. Wonder if the cartilage was pulled out or left in. I also don’t know of any glue or epoxie that would glue that tin to the skin or cartilage. Glad it worked out for you though.
Was the head mounted with the ears up or laid back? Almost sounds like the ear was broken somehow. Find out if it was shipped out for rugging then shipped back to your taxi for finish work. That’s what a ton of taxidermists do including myself when I did taxidermy. The head is mounted then...
I bought a new pair of the comfort fit hunters in 2023. Fantastic boot but I found that it was too wide for me. I had my wife meet my dad halfway between my hunt and our house since he was dropping my son off to go back home. Had her bring my old Meindl Perfekt hikers so I could hunt the next 6...
Try Meindl. They have quite a few to fit a lot of different needs. Their comfort series is built on a wide last and their normal boot is still a little wider toe box than a lot of boots. The one pair of Crispi boots I have tried on were the Nevada boots and I liked them quite a bit but I just...
Usually go with something lighter and stiff or more like an in between for the stiffness. I like a solid leather boot for pretty much all hunting. I’ve used Meindl boots exclusively for close to 20 years now. My new pair this year are the Vakuum hikers. Full leather, 7 3/4”. Boots are rated for...
My wife sent me to the store once to get milk and bread. I came home with the milk and bread but also with 10 bags of Reese’s peanut butter eggs. It was almost Easter.
Not long ago NM was draw for archery but you could hunt any unit in the state. Draw an archery elk tag which wasn’t very hard and pick where you wanted to go.
Hexarmor is a good glove. They also sell arm sleeves and aprons. I’ve used a Havalon a few times and while they are sharp I much prefer a fixed blade knife.
Yep, always a good idea to slow down and be aware where your hand is relevant to the knife. One of the first things I teach employees but it takes a while and lots of bandaides and electrical tape before it sinks in. 🤣
I would shoot a two pin vertical slider. Something like a MBG. Spotthogg is good but I don’t like the sight being on the wheel. Set one at 20 and the other at 30 or 40. That will give you everything you need. Maybe decrease your arrow weight some. Over 500 grains is way overkill for whitetail deer.
It states in NM’s regulations that you need to keep the carcass tag with your meat while in storage at your residence. If
Longer than 1 year then a storage permit is required. It’s a stupid rule and I’ve never heard of anyone getting a storage permit. The carcass tag should be enough if anything...
