I used to teach a wilderness medicine class. It was geared towards physicians, but we tried to keep it from going too far into the weeds as there were a huge difference in experience levels and limited time. I can see if I still have some of the resources if you’re interested.
I came here to make this same comment. I HIGHLY HIGHLY recommend listening to those podcasts before going very far with the reloading. They completely changed the way I work up new loads and I’ve been way happier with my reloading process since then.
Little late here but I hunt with a Chessie and he’s got his vest on anytime the air or water temp is much less than 50. A lot of folks will say that dogs (especially chessies) are made for the cold and don’t need them, but I’d rather have a dog that is comfortable and enjoys jumping in the water...
I second what Kurt says. I’ve got a Chessie that’s hell on pheasants. I’ve spent a ton of time training him to retrieve ducks, but essentially no dedicated time retrieving pheasants. Only “training” thing I did was buy some pen raised roosters and set them in a small piece of CRP so his first...
When have you noticed the recoil on the Benelli? I’ve considered gas guns before due to the recoil factor (I’m a huge weenie when it comes to hard recoiling rifles), but the only time I’ve noticed the recoil was after a 100 clay day shooting heavy target loads. I figure that’s probably a once a...
Long range is obviously subjective. I like to practice out to 100 regularly as that’s as far as I can safely shoot in my yard. Being from the Midwest, it’s crazy to me how many people never shoot over 30 yards or even practice at all. These are the same guys who wound deer shooting at 25 yards...
One of my buddies has a lucky duck roughneck and I bet he calls at least 5 days a week with it year round. It’s even fallen off his truck roof a couple times when he drive away with it up there. Still works well. I’ve left my Foxpro on the roof a few times as well. I think they both make a solid...
I’ve never been in your situation but I 100% would. When I go to the casino, I bring $100 and plan on making $100. When I hit $200 total, I leave. I’ve never lost money that way. It’s the people who get greedy and try to turn $100 into 1k that end up losing. I feel like you’re in that situation...
My advice would be to buy one on sale from a reputable call maker (don’t matter which) and keep working on that one til you can really make it sing. Then go somewhere that has a bunch you can try out and find what fits your style the best. And when the time comes to hunt, leave your call at...
I love mine. I’ve put thousands of rounds through it without a single issue despite me not being the best at cleaning it. That said, I think most well made modern shotguns will do the same.
I can say with 100% certainty that this isn’t true. I used to work at a gun store that had a “we will...
They have pretty much the same calls on them. I’ve got a Foxpro shockwave and my dad recently got a super revolt. I’d believe they were the same if I didn’t know better.
Use the terrain to your advantage so they can’t wind you. I like setting up with a big pond, river, fence, etc on my downwind side. Something they won’t cross.
I’ve known people who have had cabelas grinders for years and love them. Problem with cabelas is they won’t back a product longer than it takes for you to go put it in your car after you buy it. It could quit working the second you start using it and you’re SOL. For the record, I have a Meat...
They used to make the freestones with gore-Tex fabric. That didn’t fall in like with their gore-Tex=pricier and toray=cheaper pricing structure so they switched. A year or two ago they had them on sale for half price (I’m guessing to make room for the new Toray ones). I passed because I had a...
I can confirm that peak spring bear time is not peak fishing time. Tried the same a few years ago and the rivers were HIGH. Fall bear is definitely a better time if you wanna do 2 in 1.
I had that issue with Redding dies for my 300WM. Issue for me was too much lube, even though I didn’t use that much. If I go super light and clean the dies frequently I get less of them like that but still some in every batch. The good thing is it doesn’t affect performance at all.
I can’t speak to the durability of either as I returned my colorados for Briksdals and haven’t beat those up enough yet to really know. My problem with the colorados was that they were much too short for how stiff they were. Rather than the boot flexing a bit at the ankle while walking forward...
