    GA/AL Whitetail Guided Hunts

There are a lot of MLK weekend hunts that private schools sponsor in Alabama. I hunted near Clayton and there is an outfitter near there called Hawkins Ridge Lodge. It's a decant area, but your not going to kill a 150" deer. If you hunt that area of Al go end of January, but weather plays a huge...

When to put a dog down?

I feel for you, hardest thing I've had to do. April 21st will be three years and I still get choked up time to time. It gets easier as the months go by, but it won't go away. You owe it to him to not let him suffer. Spend a good last day or two with him, spoil him, sleep with him and tell him...

I finally made the jump into reloading

I use the Lee case trimmer. You can put the case holder in a drill, trim, inside/outside debur all with the drill. Cheap, quick and easy.

    Humor me, long barrelled 308

As everyone above said, you can't get there with a 308. You can play with rl17 and 200-210 grain bullets. We got up to 2700 in a couple rifles but average was 2550-2600. We played with this for a couple years, but rl17 is a PIA and we all went away from it. The 185/190 Berger with Varget is the...

Talk me out of a 6x42 fixed scope.

I love a fixed 6x for most general hunting.

    Scope for infrequent dialing

For out to 400 the 2-7 vx2 works fine on my 270. 2" high at 100 puts the top of the bottom post POI at 400 yards on 7x. Works for a 130 ballistic tip load at 2950ish fps on that scope reticle.

    .308

Pretty standard load is 44-45 of Varget if you have it or 43 of 4064. That is in Winchester or Lapua brass, with Federal you will be a little lower. Those will get you over 2600, and I get 2700 in a 24" barrel.

    Kimber Adirondack 6.5 velocity ?

    I have a Barrett FC with a 21" barrel. H4350 get he's slow velocities, but I'm getting 2730 with rl16 and a 140 and almost 2800 with rl22/23 with the 147. Rl 26 gave me over 2800 with the 147 but wasn't as accurate.

What are your thoughts on the Kung Flu?

On the subject of Trump not shutting us down sooner, I believe he had bad information. Almost half of the public, as evidenced by this thread believed the same. The CDC at the top has alot of people who didn't want to do him any favors and I believe that had alot to do with it. Hell the media...

killing time like everyone else... Savage 12 FV???

If you want a rifle that will shoot well, Savages definitely do, but their stocks and ergos suck. That being said, every one I've been around would shoot really well, as in very capable at 1000 yards.

    Temp insensitive powder for 308

On the rl15, probably not, but if I used it, I would make sure I got dope as close to the temperature you will most likely be hunting in. I've seen rl17 shoot one hole groups at 90 degrees and patterns at 50 degrees and below, in 260, 7-08 and 308. Maybe I just got a bad lot, but I won't touch...

    Temp insensitive powder for 308

4064 isn't as good as Varget, but I believe it's better than rl15.

Why so much love for the SWFA 3-9??

Many people claim the "glass" is not very good. I have a 3-12 LRHS, which is generally agreed to have "good" glass. In comparing it to even the 3-15 SS at dark, it beat out my LRHS, and it is also generally agreed the 3-9 glass is better than the 3-15.

    Creepy experiences in the backcountry

This thread made me think of one, didn't happen to me, but to a good friend. He's in his early sixties and probably 30 years or so ago he was a boy scout leader. For a number of years they would take an overnight canoe trip through the Okefenokee swamp. They'd canoe the the first day until they...

    Creepy experiences in the backcountry

I had this happen about 5 years ago and I'm still not sure what it was. I was hunting a lease in South West GA and was doing some scouting in February. I always carry my Glock everywhere, and most times in the South, I always had a machete with me. I worked down into a bottom I had been in...
