Regardless of politics, it seems like a guy should be able to make a nice profit after putting in so much hard work. Happy for him if that's what is happening.
"My expectation is that in nearly every situation I would speak to the prescribing medical professional before administering."
Yes, and modern tech makes this possible.
"I just can’t imagine that there are providers giving you guys pain meds for “just in case.”
I am a nurse, and I think every doc, PA, or
NP I have worked with would laugh in your face if you presented a “I just need these XYZ pain meds for my back country hunt where I hypothetically could get...
"These creatures were here before us and will be long after us. A hunter should care about healthy natural historic ecosystems.... "
I agree 100%. But, reintroduced wolves are physically larger than the original wolf that lived in North America...
"I/we extracted a hiker Monday afternoon that slipped on ice and fracrated his acetabulum."
Black swan or catastrophic accidents. They can happen. I think there's probably a place for a prescription pain killer in my ruck, next to the Ibuprofen and Tylenol.
I realize we have an opioid crisis going on in America, but I also assume I'm talking to folks that don't have that particular issue, and we don't need any more virtue signalling on that subject. This thread is about what may belong in a very competent individual's emergency medical kit.
"They make you high. Not stop pain enough to make you able to walk out. Quite the opposite truly. It'd be the best cause I know of to force you to lay down and die versus sucking it up and humping out. They have absolutely zero use for being better prepared in the back country for anyone that...
Great ideas. I hadn't considered an epipen but I do a lot of trips with my boys so perhaps that would be a good precaution.
I kinda like the idea of large tylenol/ibuprofen for pain management instead of a prescription pain killer; I'll revisit this topic with my doc.
I live at 7,500 feet and...
tyeager I definitely agree with you philosophically - treat yourself without the meds and self rescue if at all possible - but years in the backcountry and military have shown me that black swan events do happen. I'm doing 15+ backcountry trips per year. It's your personal responsibility to Be...
That's what I currently have. I've probably had vicodin or similar prescribed 4 or 5 times just so I can carry it in my pack. My doc tells me to keep the old prescriptions - they don't expire but just gradually lose effectiveness over time (his words). I also take them when I travel to Mexico...
How many of you carry emergency meds in the backcountry? If so, what do you carry? I've carried these 3 for a number of years:
1. Prescription pain killer,
2. anti-emetic (prevent dehydration),
3. antibiotic.
The meds in my rucksack are about 3 years old. I have an appointment to renew these -...
Really enjoyed my Kenetrek Hardscrabble boots. I like the low uppers. Supportive but not too hot in the summer.
I was really surprised at the response I got from large Rio Grande Cutthroat trout when I started throwing big streamers in small high country streams. Gonna do more of that this year.
I think it depends on your intended use. It's not 4K. The newer EM1II has 4K video. I think the consensus is that Panasonic has better video in a micro four thirds mirrorless camera.
For personal use I like the EM5II for video. I've noticed a little rolling shutter but I only use the camera...
My experience with the EM5II and weather-sealed lenses has been stellar.
It's a small-ish camera that I've carried on 15+ backpacking/skiing/hunting trips annually since 2015. IMHO it produces great pictures and I've abused the heck out of it. Left it outside my bivy bag overnight in a...
