It wasn't in the backcountry, but I broke me knee whitetail hunting here in IL. I had to rig up a crutch out of a branch, and limp back the 1/4 mile to my truck.
Haven't had anything scary happen in CO yet, hope it stays that way.
We eat venison at least 5 times a week in one for or another. As an example, my wife smoked a leg of venison over apple wood chunks for 2 hours, then wrapped it in Russian boar bacon, and finished it in the oven for another hour. It was heaven! Had as left overs twice, then used the rest of it...
Maybe after I get a few 300's under my bely I might feel different, but see how as I am still looking for my first elk period, I will take a 300 every year.
I have slowly acquiring Sitka gear for the last year, I started with the Forest gear for WT hunting here in the Midwest. I was impressed, so I have been adding a piece or 2 each month for the past year, in OC I have the 90% pants and jackets, Contrail wind shirt, assorted hats, gloves, bandits...
The first 3 years we were camping lower in the drainages, so we would spend a lot of time getting up high to glass, especially when the wok were quite. We plan on camping up higher this year, closer to the divide in the unit we hunt in. Water will be the only pain, but we will just deal with that.
We can only get 6 days in this year, plan on hiting a CO OTC unit for the last week of archery. To busy in the early season, and I have to fit in a trip to Estes Park for my 10 year anniversary.
