Struggled in NC the second half of our November split. Had a few great wood duck hunts early on.
Time to get the boat running again before December split opens in 3 weeks
I'd go! Especially if snow is coming. Be a cool experience for the kid and an opportunity to get him a nice bull.
In terms of areas to focus - we found them crossing from the national forest on the east side, and crossing the river from the park side. But once they get into the refuge they can...
Youth can draw bull tags and it could make a great hunt. If they get snow right before it will cause some to move around.
I did the cow hunt a few years ago. Kind of a shitshow but not too bad. I’d imagine the youth hunt is a bit calmer and decent chance for your kid to get a bull.
Since you...
SX4 would definitely do you well.
No need for a 3.5" chamber.
There are lots of other good guns in this price range - Affinity, Retay, A300, Weatherbys
It's largely personal preference on how the gun fits YOU. Go shoulder a bunch and one will stand out
YHM R2. Direct threaded.
It does a good job with noise & I’m happy with it for the price.
However, not sure I’d recommend after their recent warranty shenanigans & it’s a bit heavier than others. I’d consider spending just a bit more since you’re basically stuck with it for life.
Nope just standard walnut with poly finish. When I pillar bedded I sealed all exposed wood. I’d like to hunt with this stock and not worried about more dings. More worried about temp/moisture causing me to have POI headaches on a wet hunt
I have a rem 700 3006 blued/walnut stock that was made in the mid 80s
It has significant sentimental value to me. I inherited it from my dad who passed when I was 20. I used it to kill my first deer at 13. He shot an elk and mulie with it. I shot a moose. Between the two of us it’s probably...
never done it, but heard of people who have and had it work pretty well. Concern is you might get a lot of lead in the rifling but it's worth trying out and reporting back!
Ruger American predator is around 400. They make a 18” 308 and also a 6.5cm that I think is 22”? Comes threaded and is a tack driver. I got a 308 because it’s so cheap to shoot. With my suppressor there is almost no recoil. Benefits of the 6.5 will only show at longer ranges so pick either, I’d...
🌽 (if legal)
I don’t think that is considered hunter harassment as he’s perfectly allowed to build what he wants on HIS property. If he’s out there with an air horn while you’re legally hunting, that’s harassment
Fusions are good to go. I’ve shot deer with them with 270 308 3006, most within 100 yards. They held up but left a big hole and all passed through.
Keep us updated on your father in laws success !
Yeah serious design flaw not to lock the handle in place. Had to drill out holes and run the lock pins through.
I love this set up for public ducking. I sometimes put a lot more stuff in there. You can load up in the backyard, put the handle end on your tailgate then lift the rear of the cart...
I’ve only been once but we had 3” BBs and the birds were skittish & high. We were glad to have the extra umph of a bigger pellet
I’m definitely no snow expert though.
