I killed an elk at 571 yards with the 130tmk started at 2770fps from a 20" 6.5cm, impact was ~1900fps, close to 0 DA. That was book max Varget.
My current 6.5cm barrel is a 24" and shoots the 130tmk 2910fps with book max load of H4350. At 5k DA it hits 1800fps at 840 yards.
I have loaded the...
Agree, it would be great for Lapua to run a bunch. My pile of lapua 223 brass has a ton of reloads through it, several thousand rounds. I'm finally getting some split necks and soft primer pockets. I picked up a bunch of the starline 556 brass to try, we'll see how that goes. [emoji2369]
Both, but more prefits. My next 22cm barrel I'll probably try a local gunsmith recommended to me by @huntnful as I've never done a smith-chambered blank. Just to try something new.
Meh. I've logged 1.5k-2k centerfire rounds annually over the past few years, mostly .223 and 6.5cm, so pretty...
I don't have an exact lower limit velocity number, but impact velocities with the DRTs in the 2k fps range resulted in complete fragmentation. Thus I'd be comfortable a bit below that. With the 22cm its farther than I have any business shooting at animals.
Its a substantial drop in recoil from 6.5cm to 22cm, and the impact speeds of the bullet at all realistic hunting distances is higher with the 88g/22cm. Wind bracket mph number is similar.
I like this reloading method a lot.
Spun a new 6.5cm barrel onto my old T3 in January, its third barrel. Loaded up 20 rounds with 41g H4350, seated a 140eldm .020 off. Three shots to get on paper and rough zero. The next 10:
Adjusted up .1, then five more shots to true solver at 765 yards...
A lot of manufacturers market their BC measured at very short range, sub 200 yards. BC degrades as a bullet slows down at distance. As I understand it, AB takes averaged doppler BC values for velocities from muzzle down to below 1500fps or sometimes near transonic. Thus the bullet has slowed...
It was a great match. I too shot it Friday and RO'd for the weekend. The stage I RO'd was particularly difficult and only three shooters cleaned it all weekend. The hard-to-find targets challenged competitors' time management skills, and the tough shot locations challenged their ability to get...
This is where I've landed for the most part.
I'd love to know this too, but I'm sure its variable based on lots of factors.
I went on a recent hunt using a load that was half grain under book max with a longer than book OAL, zero pressure signs in normal conditions and velocity below book max...
