I’m a big fan of my ckyepod, but it’s on the heavy side.
I have a Dall hunt booked for 2026 and will be using my Gunwerks elevate. Nearly the same features as my single pull Ckyepod, but weighs quite a bit less.
If really wanting to hunt subsonic, I'd go 300 BLK for more flexibility in projectile choices. However, hunting with subs does introduce some challenges. You really need to know your drops. With my 300 BLK and 200 gr Makers, with a 100 yard zero, you have 3.5 minutes of drop at 125 and 7.6...
At this point, I just want my kids to have fun. I've taken my 10 year old son out on a few deer hunts on our family ranch. It's an easy hunt and comfortable.
I came home from a deer/elk hunt a few days early this season and on a Saturday, my son asked if we could go for a road trip and hunt...
Where are you getting 50 oz for the Origin SA? Per Zermatt, it's only 28 oz. A Zermatt Ti SA is ~ 21.5 oz.
What scope/mounts are you using? Bipod, can, etc? Might have some other areas to consider dropping weight. Going from a steel to Ti action is an expensive way to save only ~ 7-9 oz.
The ELDM is a great line and I have zero hesitation using them from varmints to big game. Personally, I've shot the following:
88 gr ELDM
- Mule deer buck at 315 yards (22-250 AI)
- Doe antelope at 420 yards (22 CM)
- Coyote at 600 yards (22-250 AI)
108 ELDM
- 3 coyotes at 250, 200, and...
145 LRX out of my 7 SAUM accounted for the following this season:
- Bull elk at 415 yards (sucked up the first shot in the lungs and stood wobbling, put another in him and dropped)
- Whitetail buck at 350 yards (bang flop)
- Whitetail buck at 580 (bang flop)
- Mule deer buck at 315 (bang flop)...
The bubbles are totally normal. Not sure what to make of the growth - possible tumor or abscess. Cut around and process the meat like normal and I'm sure it'd be fine.
1x fired brass for sale. Will sell by cartridge as a lot (not going to split via headstamps).
1) 6.5 CM
- Hornady (186)
- FC (160)
- Sellier and Bellot (17)
$95 shipped
2) 300 WM *sold*
Not required at all, but I like mine. I deprime my brass and toss them in the tumbler for a few hours, then it's done. I'd rather do that instead of using steel wool, etc.
If Exo says it’s fine, I think you have a few options:
- Return for a refund
- Live with it and if it fails, I’m sure you’d be covered by the warranty
- Find someone to stitch it for you
For the new sale price, I’m pretty tempted to pick up a pair.
For me, I can see these being helpful for coyote hunting or even archery where elk are constantly moving.
