There is a saying in the horse industry.
Horses can be cheap, broke or sound. You can have 2 of the 3 but you can’t have all 3.
You can buy a cheap, broke horse but it probably isn’t sound. You can buy a cheap and sound horse but it won’t be broke or you can buy one that’s broke and sound...
If I were you, I’d check out The Horse Bay. It’s online and the seller has to pay for the health check before listing the horse. Also being that it sounds like you are inexperienced I’d consider looking at a sport mule and not limiting yourself to just horses.
No better opportunity than at home to do what you did, well done! Just be prepared because equines are the kings & queens of being different on the road than at home. You’ll probably deal with a similar issue when they are in unfamiliar places BUT now you know how to deal with it and that’s what...

The breeder is in Whitehall and the other 3 older ones are in Helena. Lol you don’t feel like coming to Texas to visit with detour through SLC do ya? 😂
Lol you sound like me. The breeder I’m getting the kids from in the spring is trying to sell me her place. We’ve been trying to decide between northwest Wyoming, MT or now eastern ID. Kind of fell in love with North Fork, ID
We are located in central Texas. We are just getting into goat packing. We’ve been doing the horse packing for a bit but I wanted something I could use in Idaho where I can’t get the horses into.
This is what I use to start horses with when packing. They last quite awhile and usually State Line Tack has them on sale for about $60. It fits over the saddle or can be added to cross bucks. They are inexpensive enough that if a horse has a meltdown and they get damaged I’m not out much...
I’ve got (3) 2.5 yr old alpine wethers that I am hoping to pick up in a month. They have been doing light pack training in MT for the past 2 yrs and the woman has them trained to pull a cart for hauling firewood off the mountain. Additionally I’ve got (3) kids coming in the spring as well.
