My 6.5 kimber wears a Leupold VX 3 with CDS and has taken 3 rams, and wears the scars of the mountain to prove it. It's checked for zero before and after each hunt and hasn't changed a bit. It's the same rifle that my daughter took her ram with at 350 yds.
But... :) My sako 375 wears a...
I carry a stout little Marttiini (Finland) that I bought in 1982 and miraculously still have. First knife I ever paid around a $100 for.
Also a custom Don Stevenson caper my daughter bought for me a few years ago.
Usually just put it on the game bags until it goes inside. Depending on the ground cover I'll sometimes lay out a siltarp and put quarters on that, especially if I'm deboning in the field (i.e.: sheep). Grass and hair and dirt is a pia to remove after the "crust" starts to form on the meat.
Posted in a thread but I guess I should throw in my kid's ram, Sept 15. Her first sheep and first big game animal- a tough trek to get this guy, especially for a new mom of 8 weeks. :) And of course it was on the day I forgot my decent camera....

My daughter pulled what's basically a once in a life time tag this year. Just to complicate matters a little she had her first child July 18 so the Aug. 1st opener was out. lol 8 weeks after my grandson was born we hit the mountains for a 5 day hunt- about as long as she could leave the new...
Like a lot of trendy things some people will internet the crap out of "advice", listen to online "experts", read blogs, develop gear lists filled with "essentials" and over estimate their capacity for roughing it, either physically or mentally. Usually mentally, particularly if they are trying...
Couple of notables.
7 yds from a very rutted up bull moose my buddy and I called in. He came in fast and was standing there blowing snot and foam and looking at me. It was in a tine restricted area and he didn't make the grade or would have worn an arrow.
Predator black bear encounter that...
Still wish I had my '68. Top end of about 60 mph but that baby could climb trees! lol Converted 3 on the tree to a Hurst 3 on the floor, topless in the summer, the rumble of headers on a v8 into straight Thrush exhaust... sigh...
Never did warm up to the "big" Broncos and I will admit...
