    Critter Getter vs Electric Fence

UDAP Bear Fence. I would definitely set it up at home first because the first time is going to be a bit of a pain. The problem up here is finding ground clear enough to set one up, you can't have a bunch of brush or grass touching the wires. I bring a pair of garden shears for trimming the...

    Critter Getter vs Electric Fence

I sleep a whole lot better with my fence, I know that. Get a longer grounding stake though.

What do you do for exercising when you are getting ready for a hunt?

Elliptical on high resistance for mountain hunt training. I also walked 3-4 miles ish a day at lunch in my hunting boots for a few months leading up to sheep hunts, I like to condition my feet to impact and the boot itself. I lost the most weight in a short period when I picked up swimming.

N portion Bristol Bay / Lure selection on moose hunt

Grayling are rats with fins, they will strike just about anything, #2 size is getting a little big for them IMO, I always use #1s. Rainbows/Char seem more picky to me.

Which rifle should I take on my Alaskan moose hunt in September?

I've taken multiple moose with a .243 and a grizz with a .243. The moose were never a problem as I always popped lungs, my old man would of smacked the shit out of me if I blasted one in the shoulder. Now the grizz, that will be the only time I shoot a grizz with 90 grains out of a .243...

How much wildgame does your family eat?

Family of 6, any meal that would have beef is substituted with moose. A nice sized bull will only last us until around July-ish if we supplement heavy with salmon/chicken/pork main-entrée meals. Ideally, a nice bull and a half would be perfect. A few years ago my son drew a cow tag that he...

    Howa Accuracy

I love my 1500 in .300 WM, she is a heavy gurl tho. It is slightly sub-MOA and a older gun, but I haven't had any QA issues with it.

    How far before going boneless?

You are going to lose yield if you age your meat boneless for sure, you are going to have all that dried shoe-leather surface area to deal with when you are ready to butcher. If you don't care about aging meat then by all means, slice that stuff up in the field.

    Kids first vehicle……

HA! I had a 1986, same truck. Excellent on gas, pops demanded I buy a manual transmission, I hated the idea but soon loved it and I am so glad I learned on that. Been a number of years since I have owned a manual, but I can still jump in one and roll out if the need arises. I know so many...

    Potential move to Alaska

I was born and raised here, but spent 10 years in the Navy seeing the world before coming back. One thing you will find out pretty quick, you are basically on a island road-system wise. Look at a map, the roads only cover a small portion of the state. Haul road doesn't really count, nobody...

    Scope choice for moose

Comfortable with your 1-8x32 out to 500? If you are then that's great, it can certainly be done. I have my lighter weight rifle with a 1-6x32, and the last time I had both guns together at low light it was literally night and day looking through both of them.

    Scope choice for moose

3-15x50 is on my hunting gun but it also weighs 12lbs. I just like being able to reach out and touch critters if the occasion calls for it. Last two moose were taken out at 477 and 580 yards. I've taken plenty of moose sub-100 yards, the above two were a rare situation, but I'm 100% confident...

    new moose hunter needs advise

Staying put is sound advice if you know moose are in the area. Even if you call away for days and see nothing, stay put. At the beginning of the season the bulls group up, i don't think they do that cause they wanna be friends and hang out, but because they want to know who else is in the area...

Planning Alaskan family vacation looking for help

Denali NP will be a lame run this summer. The road is closed due to a landslide at Pretty Rocks and stops you at mile 43, the East Fork bridge. IMO the road past that point is where you really start seeing the good parts of the park, Polychrome Pass, Toklat, etc., so a trip into the park this...
