That’s really helpful, thanks. I hadn’t considered the effect on a phoneskope (which I use).
And there are numerous times when 2000+ yards is normal to glass in the terrain I hunt.

I had the opposite experience at cabelas once. $30 pair of Sitka gloves I had been looking for had the wrong Sitka glove tag on them list at $80. I mean they were not just the wrong price tag, but the wrong tag all together.
I had to show the customer service the Sitka website pictures and...
The two that are available to me at the moment are exactly one pound apart. However, the 85 takes a considerable more amount of space in my pack.

I didn’t say in the original post, but let’s say 5 miles or so back with at least a few thousand feet in elevation climb.

I’ll second the Nemo spoon as a wide sleeping bag option. They aren’t as warm as the WM, but you will have room to move, and you can find them on sale pretty regularly.

I understand the 65mm vs 85mm spotting scope debate has been discussed numerous times here and everywhere else. I also understand the general consensus is 65 if its on your back and 85 if it's close to the truck or at the range.
My question is, for high country mule deer hunts, how many of...
Yes, that’s a good idea. And there are a lot more burned areas here after last year. To be honest, I’ve done more dear hunting with a bear tag in my pocket. Trying to devote more time just for bears every year.

It doesn’t start until April 30th. Nobody is signed up yet. Your entry is posting when the challenge begins the 30th. Robby explains all this in the actual cold bow challenge post (others have out the link in earlier posts). Go read that to see the qualifications. This post is just for...
I thought the website was hacked or something. When I went to the full web version it was a Wordpress homepage asking me to set up a new password.

I have the First Lite Uncompahgre and it is not a static layer. It’s nice, but it’s thin and I’ve expected too much from it before and froze.
I live in CA too, but I’m in the Tahoe mtns so my temps are lower than what yours are. I use the KUIU Super Down Pro and love it. Expensive, but packs...
It’s a very good decision to look through what you’ve narrowed your list down to. I tried a number of brands, and models, before finding what best fit my needs. Needless to say, our eyes are all a little different so what someone else likes best, you may not. Ergonomics and weight are also...
The Kenai is an excellent insulation layer. I use mine under a shell when it’s cold (snowy) when I know I’m going to be moving. Warm, but also dries quickly if I sweat.
Down for stationary, synthetic for moving. That recipe works for me.

Welcome to Rokslide! This is the place I found out about the Active Junky program. Been using it for a couple years now and appreciate getting the cash back!
Do yourself a favor and check their affiliate/vendor list. There are probably companies you already buy from they work with.

Thanks, I need to check those out. I’ve had over a dozen Nalgene bottles, lost, found, garage, kids and never knew those small ones existed. [emoji23]

3L camelback bladder I’ve had for 15 years with no problems. I always carry a nalgene as well for water I want to put some kind of hydration packet in.
Thinking of trying a platypus collapsible instead of the nalgene. Curios for those of you use a 1l or 2l platypus water bottle and put...
I use this one too. I’m not shooting more than 300-400 yards in the field and it’s better than resting my rifle on my pack. I missed a nice buck a few years ago not being able to get my rifle up off the ground enough and that’s when I put the bipod on.
Probably not the best for match shooters...
