Ok I don't know if bears count as big game but they tend to move a lot. I've seen guys miss a chip 300yd shot because they were too busy trying to dial when they should have just held 2moa or whatever and shot. It's a good skill to know that you have.
6.5x47 143 eld-x
Elk at 515 high shoulder drt
Elk at 589 impact behind shoulder ran 75yds and died.
Both shots were on dead calm days. I've killed a pile in the 400yd range.
My wife and I have killed 15ish elk between us maybe more with my 6.5x47. I bet 400yd average max 600. Never lost one and never had a big tracking job. Every one is dead within 100yds. Much less impressive ballistics compared to the prc.
Western coyotes average under 30lbs. Wolves 80+- 10lbs here. Eastern coyotes do get a lot bigger. Im sorry but I don't believe anybody about wolf sightings unless they can show me tracks with size reference.
They are handy little dogs. I use them to hunt coyotes. They are working dogs so if all you want them to do is hang out it might not be the best breed for you.
As a horse hunter who takes non horse people hunting from time to time, being able to get on and off as quickly and efficiently as possible is my most desired trait. Stretch and do body weight squats. Learn the motion of swinging your leg over. Dude horses are most likely bullet proof but if...
Black rain ordnance AR-10 with 18" lyja barrel and Magpul stock. Threaded 5/8 24. $1100 located in central Montana would like to sell somewhat locally. It shoots black hills ammo sub moa
Sorry to de rail the topic but my '13 5.0 lost compression on a cylinder with 150k on the engine. I've put about 10k on since, it idles rough. Mechanic told me it needs a new engine. I liked the truck until that point.
I just sent a cva Cascade into them this week. The customer service guy said oh must be a crowning issue, as if they've had a lot of them. I hope mine turns out as good as yours did.
I live in griz country and carry a Glock 29 most days from March till dec. I put the 20 mag in it with the extender. Not as nice to kill stuff trying to eat you as a shotgun but I'll always have it on me and I'm confident it will work when I need it to.
According to a guide on here he had a client bounce a .308 round off a elk's shoulder at 250yds! 🤔
My advice is use a heavier bullet that is the most accurate out of your rifle. Ive killed a pile of elk with a eld-x out of a 6.5. your 308 work great if you put the bullet where it's supposed to go.
I get what you're saying and agree with most of it, but the basic biology of wolves v bull elk is very different. Wolves travel 15-20mi a night just because they can while bulls will hang out in the same drainage for days at a time. Not to mention there are far more elk than wolves thank Christ...
In wi they cut fresh tracks heading into a small island of timber and turn dogs out and shoot the wolves as they come out the other side. Wouldn't work at all in large roadless areas like northern MN or Montana. Hounds would either get out ran or killed.
I hunt back there horseback every year. I do it because I love the country. That being said I think it's criminal outfitters are operating back there still. It's worse than used car salesmen. Not good for the few elk left back there and not good for the clients being dupped. There are easier and...
Id like to hear what ranges your incompetent hunters are shooting elk with 308 in the shoulder and not dying? Must be 500yds plus.
I agree with you 100% but 300wm is not my pick for beginners. People are getting soft is the just of what I get from your post.
