As a NR going on my first elk hunt next year, you have to sit down and read. You have to wrap your head around the landscape of western hunting and the games they play to get tags. It's not like it is over here in the south or the east which blew my mind at first. Hell, I just learned that you...
I mean if you have to buy another rifle, a 22 creed would do the job or a 280ai. However, you have everything covered. You might pick one of your existing guns and grab a stock and a really nice scope and focus on becoming extremely proficient if you don't already have them setup how you want.
That's really tough. I'm right handed but shoot left and my son shoots right. Luckily I was able to grab a 223 Tikka T3x for him and it's been stellar. I'd recommend that but I believe they're extremely hard to get if not unobtainable in left handed models.
Here's an oddball suggestion. Proof...
That's one you'll never forget!
We have a lake with similar attributes, a shotgun only island, and some access to wildlife management areas. I think you can hunt the corps land as well. I hear turkeys in the spring in one location as I'm an avid crappie fisherman.
I need to do some more...
This is the biggest reason I signed up for the S2H class. I want to reduce the learning curve and get some tips to become faster at it.
Right now i use a tripod but setup is SLOW and not very likely if it's a quick opportunity so I don't want to rely on it. Lots of good advice here so far.
Let's add another one, how about a tikka 6.5prc? I'm assuming you're keeping the .243. If not then maybe a 6.5 creed that would lend itself to more practicing.
The 77s out of my son's tikka seemed very finicky with jump although some people here don't believe in that. I shot 50rds on this target and landed on the 24.2 load at 80 off.
The target is a mess. I missed a load and had to come back to it at the end.
24.2 was the highest I tried although n...
They make a difference. I was right on the edge as well. I went with the 26.5 and they were too tall. They stuck up behind my head and kept it from going back too far. I swapped with someone for the 25s and it's much better.
I have a long torso and thought the bigger ones would work. If I...
SG Sentinel is my pick. My issue was that i needed no magnets because of my RF binos. This severely narrowed the field. I also want low profile.
I was between the Catamount and the SG. Well I got 20% off the SG and pulled the trigger. The side phone pocket is really nice too.
The SG pics make...
1000% a neck tension issue. You need to go with a smaller bushing, anneal it and resize, or do something else. Like above, I've never given a second thought to where the case mouth fell on a cannelure and it's never made a difference.
Think about how long the neck is, that entire neck should...
IMO, the gold standard for mid weight stand hunting is the Sitka Stratus line. Absolute game changer for me. If you get the pants, go with the bibs so you can vent them. With good bases layers, this will take you down pretty low. Sustained 30 degree temps might be a bit low though. I promise...
Will the CRF mechanism be similar to what MRC offers now with the mauser style claw extractor or will it be more of a modern hybridization like a Zermatt?
I ask because taking prefits would be my only stipulation which you already confirmed. As far as I know, model 70s have to be barreled by a...
Varget for me and the 77s. 24.2grs to be exact and on the crunchy side. Think I landed on 60thou off the lands which is damn near mag length. I'd like to try a longer mag and imagine i could get it shooting a bit better but it's fine for what it is.
I'm a huge CRF fan and everything about one of my newer model 70s other than the action is lacking. Cant wait. Maybe I'll scrap my m70 project dreams and grab one of these.
Are you building a gas gun? If it's for your wife i doubt she's going to be practicing a ton with it too right? Id lean 22 creed with 88s in a bolt gun.
