Floating bolt head
bolt/raceway clearance
small brass
fat chamber
headspace
Could be any one or more likely a stacking of clearances but not necessarily a problem. How’s it shoot?
Has the brass only been fired in that chamber? Did the new brass click after the first firing? Full length sizing? I can’t tell from the picture but it looks like scuffing at the head end of the case. When rings are bad they’ll be shiny in a fired case.
Is it a new chamber? Is the brass new to that chamber, or fired in a different chamber? How are you sizing your brass? If the rings are deep enough they can cause a problem, but might be polished out. Usually the click comes from the head, web area not being sized enough by the die, either due...
I don’t know, I’d have to run serial numbers. A recent example, .257 Roberts that wouldn’t shoot even after all things were checked and tried. When I got it I pulled the (hand tight) barrel to discover that there was a pronounced burr around where they broached the extractor slot in the face of...
I’ve rebarreled almost 100 montanas. They definitely have issues from the factory. They definitely shoot better after being barreled and bedded. And on many, the barrel is barely hand tight. I think it has something to do with the factory aligning the extractor cut, and if the cut aligns before...
I was just about to say what Mtnwarden said. Merino simply won’t dry fast enough or keep you warm if it’s soaked in sweat. I like thin fleece the most. If I’m moving or climbing I use two thin layers that I can swap when I stop, the wet one can hang in the pack if it’s not raining. Fleece can be...
I didn’t have to do it! Actually it was done to use as an example of their work. The colors look better in person and I feel it’s superior to Cerakote, although the elite series is pretty good.
They are very high quality stocks, light and stiff. If you’ve ever had one in the mill you see how much glass there is in the matrix. With the high comb and vertical grip they’re perfect.
