Swaro Optics notices the trends and gets busy!

So it appears that Swaro is getting after it this year. They are adding a bunch of stuff and adding some super updates. EL Ranges are going to be updated with new ballistic computer and better rangefinding engine. They are going to adapt some of the electronics from their DS rifle scope. They...

    Fantastic Sheep hunter and Guide

He has a great reputation up here in Fairbanks area. He has overcome tremendous physical hurdles and is a real butt kicker. The young bucks up here love him to death. They have said that he for better or worse hitches his horses completely differently the the horse guides up here. A huge thing...

    Are you ready if SHTF?.......

Just crank the Hank Jr. on the 8 Track and keep on truckin! A country boy can survive. We probably would Bug in for about two to three weeks here after falling 10 trees on the road to our place near Fairbanks. I have a trauma surgeon, a mechanical engineer and two very cro-mag looking MFers in...

    Vortex spotting scopes

Hey, Graham. Could you get Dave Hamilton to come on here and talk about 18650 batteries and how to lighten pack weights. That would be cool. I also think that you folks should come up with a RRS type of tripod/gun saddle combo with a fourth back rest leg for your bigger LR shooting systems. A...

The Road to Brooks Range Dall Sheep!

New Year marks a time when you should start earnestly working into your boots. You need to start hiking with weights and without weights two days per week. You need to use a stairclimber with a pack if you do not have access to hiking. You should be able to sustain a hard thirty minute cardio...

How long can you keep meat in the mountains?

Glaciers... They work. You take the boned out meat in the meat sacks and lightly salt the outside of the meat and put it in the glacier. It will freeze after 24 hours. Then you can treat it like frozen meat until you work your way out. Otherwise. You should be carrying some salt for the cape...

The Road to Brooks Range Dall Sheep!

Right now you should be doing two different things that not a lot of people will tell you to do that will really make you enjoy your experience. 1) Inspiration. You should buy Lew Bradley's Rampages 1-3, Trophy Rams of the Brooks Range by Duncan Gilchrist and Robert Anderson's Great Rams and...

I'm I the only one who fears a solo hunt...

I started hunting solo in the Tonsina Controlled Use Area in the mountains above Chitina when I was 14 years old. I would take a daypack and a 1893 marlin 30/30 and just go siwishing and hunting. My family wouldn't really care unless I was gone for more than four or five days. You can get...

    Suggestions for future episodes!

You guys should do a video follow along with Tom and Jack Butler. That is some big country and 30 day back pack hunts with a 69 year old who I betcha could kick Greg McHale's behind in rougher country that McHale has ever seen. Just look at the last 10 years with the 44 inch(174) and the 42 in...

2020 Best Wild Sheep Hunt Photo Contest, sponsored by Stone Glacier

Gawd dang it! I tried to get Jerry Lees to enter his. He has a short vid of him holding it. Sure there have been a lot of bigger sheep taken this year but he definitely has the prettiest sheep in my opinion. It don't count unless he enters it.

    Trekking poles; gimmick or gear?

You can travel much faster on the trail with them. They can serve as a rest in the open country. They are critical if you are on glacial terrain. Four points of contact are better than two. They are also really good for packing heavy loads and beating through the underbrush.

    Rifle care in Sheep country

I have taken blued /walnut rifles many times. Johnson paste wax on outside of action. I put electric tape over barrel and clothe tape over wood and spray paint a clear coat acrylic paint over the top of it. I have been taking stainless/ Syn for past couple of years and just spray paint it with...

Exo K3 6400 Pack System Review, By Jon Troxell

Barney's packs are great for weight but they get caught up in Alders very easily. Internal frame haulers can do very great things in back alder country. Thank you for your comments.

Exo K3 6400 Pack System Review, By Jon Troxell

Your review was interesting but I have a question or suggestion. How does it deal with a load with heavy weight(150-225lbs) in dense brush? 225lbs might sound like overkill but it is what a hind quarter of a moose weighs and I have had packouts with mountain goats that weigh that much as well...

Adding a spotter this season, help me choose

That Vortex Razor has Chinese parts but is assembled in the US until you buy GenI then its China. I would push you in another direction to look at the Zeiss Gavia 85 angled and then get the best price you can from Doug.
