Unprecedent loss of critical winter range this summer in SW Idaho. This fire isn't done yet. Hope they can get in front of it before that cold front blows through this PM. If it makes into the timber, it'll be impossible to fight.
It will be interesting to see what they come up with this year. Since 2025 will be a new season setting cycle, they will more than likely fly the critical winter range in unit 32. With the majority of that winter range burnt in the Paddock Fire, it will be hard to get an accurate survey. After...
It's a well travelled road that acesses a lot of country, especially this time of year. There are folks coming through that have no idea that it has been closed for fire activity. The road block should have information and if staffed by guards, they should be able to convey to the public why...

How do they pay to fight 100k acre fires? They sure as hell don't pay for theirselves. Seems like that money could be spent proactive rather than reactive.
Don't want to privatize any of it and I don't want it all cut either. There is room for local collaboration between federal land management and local communities. Unless it is designated wilderness, it's a working forest and needs to be managed as such. The days of clear cutting are long gone...
As much as dislike the thought of the state ( Idaho in this case), these giant fires are one of the reasons people get on board with the idea. There was a big meeting this last week at the Idaho state house over this.
If you look at the West Mtn complex the fire stopped at the Wilks Bros...
That was the cause of the Eagle Bar fire in Hells Canyon in 1989. I'm not sure if they still do it, but they used to make t shirts for the fire crews . The t shirt for that one was a drawing of a roll of toilet paper unrolling over a map of Idaho and said " I got wiped out on the Eagle Bar Fire"...
Man, don't even get me going! Watched the Lava fire here in SW Idaho blow up 40k acres in one day. They were "monitoring" it for 5 days . There were 3 different logging contractors within 15 miles of it. Sawyers, Water trucks, dozers and feller bunchers were all right there and no call to them...

Read to them every night (as already mentioned)
Help Mom out whenever you can.
As they get older, don't expect them to like all of your hobbies. They have their own mind and will have differing likes. That's okay.
Don't try to solve all of their problems for them. They need to learn how to do...
