I tried 88s in a 16” 1/8 223 a couple years back and got around 2700 FPS and they stabilized fine but I was a 5000 ft or so. I didn’t shoot a lot of them and went to TMKs.
I have an 18” 1/7 223AI that’ll shoot them at 2850 but I can’t get it to shoot better than 1.5” groups.
Listened to 35 minutes and 49 seconds of this second podcast while running today and it seemed as though he contradicted himself with small calibers don’t work but a guide he knows loves the 243 and another guy went to Africa and killed everything with it but they don’t have energy yada yada...
I’ve put a lot of heavy rucking miles in with Solomon quest boots with a sheep feet insole. Terrain has ranged from hardball roads to soft sandy flats. I highly recommend them.
I have a brand new still in the box Gunwerks 2.0 that replaced my original. Just received it yesterday but do not need it. $350 shipped f&f or add the PayPal fee.
When I was up in Idaho and Montana an elk euro was around $100. Down here in southern New Mexico people are charging $400. I’m doing to start doing them myself next year.
Yeah I was surprised. They’re handloads leaving the muzzle at 2900 fps so that one was over 2800fps on impact. I have about 600 of them left. I’ll try some on javelina in February and maybe some auodad and deer in Texas if I have the chance.
I did this year. In Wyoming on a cow. It was stupid cold and wind was blowing hard and I was solo so no pictures. I used the gutless method so I didn’t see internal damage either. With that I’m not sure how much my example is worth.
First shot, hard quarter to at 100 yards in the timber. Went...
If you’re ever in west Texas or southern New Mexico killing Auodad let me know, I’m here in Las Cruces and you can try it out.
I’ve become pretty fond of the 6 creed. Killed my elk with it this year and killed one last year with my 223. Those small “target” bullets are ruthless! I may need to...
My example was a bit extreme I suppose. Maybe a better example would be a 6.5 creed or 308 vs the 7-300. I know for me the rokstock alone makes all my guns recoil feel lighter so if you throw that in the mix as well it should help things out. Have you tried one out yet?
I’m a huge small caliber...
That’s what I’ve been thinking lately. I’m not sure how to calculate it but how heavy does a 7-300NMI shooting 180s have to be to have similar recoil to a 6 creed shooting the 115s in a 7lb suppressed rifle?
I was shooting my 6 creed and 6.5 PRC the other day and they both felt very close in...
Just shot my rifle after it has been in a lock box in the back of my truck for the last 4ish months. This Leupold mark 5 3-18 seems to be doing well.
Edit to add: I should mention that I never dial and always use my reticle with this specific scope.
