    FNG from OK

Welcome. Tikka makes a fine rifle for a reasonable price, but the plastic and styrofoam stock is annoying. You are on the right track. I don’t think there is a better site for hunting gear.

    Suppressor wait times

I got an e-mail from SilencerShop this morning attaching an approved copy of a second Form 4 (for my Scythe Ti) that I had submitted on Jan 3. It was approved yesterday. I haven't heard from the dealer on this one yet, but it is better than Christmas.

    Another MOA vs Mil thread

I don't think it really matters all that much. I have both MIL and MOA scopes, and they all work fine. For drop, I invariably have a chart taped to the stock translating range into MILS or MOA up. Wind calls for me tend to be intuitive. In the long range shooting world, the idea that you...

Same. I would be much more inclined to buy the latest and greatest shiny can if I got more immediate gratification.

New Weatherby Mark V Live Wild

Not nobody. My elk rifle is a 26" Wby Mk 5 in 300 Wby, and I run a can on it. The whole point of a magnum cartridge is to push the bullet faster, so why would I want a short barrel? I find it interesting that Wby is moving away from their traditional Monte Carlo stocks. I like them, and I...

    Muzzle Break or Suppressor?

I have a few of rifles that came with brakes. I have never used them. I have cans on most of my hunting rigs. But the ones that don't are generally larger caliber. I don't know of a can that works on a .416 Rigby for instance. Plus it has nice irons. Once you have hunted suppressed, you...

Do you need someone to represent an employer or an employee? Most lawyers only do one or the other.

    4473 fun / dealer question

Your boys won’t be able to buy a pistol from an FFL until they are 21 per the Gun Control Act. There is litigation pending in several states challenging it under Bruen, but it has been the law since 1968.

What was your first western hunt - especially if from East of the Mississippi

In 2004 I did a self-guided float hunt in Alaska. I killed a small caribou at 418 yards with a Remington 700 BDL in 300 win mag. It was my first big game animal. I’ve killed many since, including a trip to Africa, but that one was special.

Bergara Ridge Carbon Wilderness or Browning X-Bolt Speed SR

My advice is to buy your suppressor now while you continue to research rifles. We’ve seen some stamps coming back fast, but there are no guarantees. If you want to hunt with your can in 2024, buy it now and get the form 4 submitted.

Direct Thread Suppressors; Swapping Back and Forth Between Rifles at Range

I echo what others have said about heat. If you should more than a handful of shots in rapid succession, the can will be too hot to handle. I usually let my barrel cool to ambient between shots when doing load development or shooting for group. I sometimes bring another rifle to shoot in...

    Non-foam Pelican Case Insert???

Given the price, I’d sure like to hear from someone who has tried one of these before buying. I have had the same Pelican1750 for 20 years and have several sets of foam for it. This looks like a great solution.

    Suppressor wait times

So I just got a Form 4 back in record time. In 20 years and a bunch of forms, this is the fastest I have ever had. Rugged Obsidian. Purchased through SilencerShop. Individual. Form 4 was submitted via eforms on 1.15.2024 Approved 2.14.2024. I have another Form 4 for a SilencerCo Scythe Ti...

    Non-foam Pelican Case Insert???

This site costs me money. I did not know I needed one of these until now.

    Bad habits

No, but it just makes me nervous. It strikes me as an extraordinarily complex bit of machine work to make a receiver with an integral rail. I assume (and we know what assumptions are worth), that this is the reason more manufacturers don't do it. I'd be happy to be educated on the subject.

    Bad habits

    That would be perfect.

    Bad habits

You have it right. I think integral rails are better, if they can be machined correctly. The main downside for me, though, is that for hunting rifles, I tend to prefer hinged floorplates rather than detachable magazines, all else being equal. A full length rail can make it hard to load and...

    Suppressor needed

That is a smoking deal. I sent it to several friends.

    Bad habits

It has always seemed to be that the weak in links the system are the screws that hold the base(s) to the receiver. Under recoil, the screws are fairly strong because the force is pushing sideways on them. They would have to sheer off to fail. If you are carrying the rifle by the scope, you...

    Insuring Your Gear

Most home owners policies have low sublimits for firearms. I have a policy from Lockton to cover mine. Cost is very reasonable.
